Iran - Israel/US War: Israel-US declare war on Iran, Iran responds

Guys, the euphoria of this operation will probably be forgotten in a week or two when oil prices go to 150 dollars

Also dont forget. Iran might get a 2nd chance of this. And a third and fourth...
Iranian airdefence seem to be adapting to the battlefield in real time, and its not inconceivable a few more jets will be taken out.

Regardless, it wont change the equation.
We shot down one F-15 after one month and 2 pilots ejected relatively deep into Iranian territory, the second one was in Iran for > 30 hours

How many more years do you think we have to fight them to get another opportunity like this?

I guess you are not still celebrating

Jack Murphy wins

Im fine with the outcome

200+ soldiers used in the raid
12+ aircraft used in the raid

US Lost:
2 C-130
2 MH-6
At least 1 MQ-9

All for one injured pilot

If Iran had captured the pilot then I would have to hear Trump say: “if iran doesn’t release the pilot in 48 hours, I will nuke Tehran” every few days.

At this point how do they plan on doing the Isfahan raid if they waste this much resources on 1 pilot?

C130 got stuck may due to hard landing, They were unable to take off. So, They got fragged along with mh-6. Its most likely these were destroyed by USA before leaving the zone.

Since all the destroyed parts are located in close proximity it was indeed fragged or blown up by C4.

If It was shoot down all fried parts would have scattered and not all of the parts had burn mark. Like F15 tail indeed it wasn't a shoot down.

The planes were blown up exactly where they landed. USA might have injury and causalities but they are successful on their mission, even its all about a dead body.

IRGC is weak. So does Iran army and other units.

If USA was able to do that, They can easily setup several bases with 20K army. That would be enough to take over significant part of Iran.

Iran wasn't fully prepared as they don't have enough quality SAM in numbers and ability to control its sky.

boots on the ground wont be a good news for Iran.

Those who reported that US blew their planes themselves, they reported "stuck in soft ground"

Guy, who first reported the event also says the same

Which contradicts what everyone is saying that they got stuck in mud

No I said 9000KG of lower grade uranium.
Yes, but only 200 kilograms of it is 20%, the rest is 3.5%.

I think it can be shorter. But we have to agree to disagree on this.
We are not discussing Ghormeh-Sabzi to agree to disagree. It's physics and mathematics. The only way it can be shorter is if the SWU of an IR-9 machine is higher than 30. Your initial statement was +20, so I went up and assumed it was 30 and did the math.

Also, Iran had never deployed IR-9 machines. So, its actual SWU in practice is unknown and can only estimated based on theoretical limits. And ICAC was flattened by the US and Israel in last year's June, meaning that we cannot produce new centrifuges and all we have is what we have stored confidentially prior to this incident.

No, the point of my comment wasn’t actually building the bomb that fast. The point was how absurd people are focusing only on the HEU when Iran can regenerate it. That’s why Trump won’t stop with just the HEU.
Fair enough.

Russians are leaving in droves. Decent possibility Israel hits it next week. I’m sure there is only a tiny skeleton crew left.

And it’s quite simple to reprocess it actually. You should read this article.

Plutonium reprocessing is simple because it's a chemical process but it still needs well-equipped facilities because it's radioactive and extremely dangerous to humans and the environment.

By Russia’s own admission there are 210 tons of spent fuel at the plant.

Now you can see why Israel keeps bombing around the plant, because it’s worried Iran will attempt to remove the spent fuel as well like it did the Fordow material days before the bombing.
Yes, the current nuclear reactor at Bushehr uses 27 tones of 3.5% LEU. 210 tons of spent fuel is pretty close to its calculated output. I never challenged that.

The issue is that this 210 kilograms of plutonium is not Pu-239, which is the fissile isotope of plutonium and it is contaminated with a lot of Pu-240, which is non-fissile. And since isotopes cannot be separated chemically, you will still need to use isotope separation on this spent fuel. So, basically, you still need laser isotope separation or gas centrifuges or any other method of isotope enrichment.

The other solution is to change the burnup ratio of the reactor by adjusting its neutron flux or other methods. As a rule of thumb, low burnup gives more PU-239 and less Pu-240. Higher burnup gives more Pu-240 and Pu-241, which are non-fissile isotopes.

I am sure they would trade 100 empty c-130s for 2 POWs

This just shows that the U.S. has air superiority deep in Iran, the Iranian ground forces don’t exist, and we have very few MANPADs

The only reason a raid in Esfahan (which is not far from this location) is less likely is the fact Iran sealed the entrances to the facility and they are not sure they could complete the raid overnight

Weird how no real details of the Op have been released but somehow we know for certainty that the C-130s had "wheels stuck in mud", so that little snippet was released to be amplified by various people but no other real details. Funny heh?

This was not a defeat for Iran. If US had air superiority over say all of Baluchistan Pak Army would struggle to find a downed airmen before US could knowing their surveillence capabilities and the pilots tracking/emitting kit. No shame here.

Did US do a great job getting him out despite the massive man hunt? Yes. Both things can be true at the same time.

For me the big takeaway lesson know if the massive cost to rescue one airman. US will now have to rethink the bombing strategy as this could well happen again, and they simply cannot afford to do missions like this on a regular basis.

My guess is 2 C-130s got caught on the ground by heavy fire and were destroyed or even (ala Eagle Claw) a big ground accident.

For sure there will be US casualties we may not know about, but if 2 SF C-130s and 1 SF Blackhawk and 1 SF Littlebird were lost, that is a hell of a heavy price.

This is the first time in history the US rescued two pilots in enemy territory back to back

They are going to make movies and tv shows about this shit for years. Fml

Off topic:

That's how Pakistanis felt after Osama Bin Laden raid, which on its own is unbelievable too without any insider help.

*stuck in sand, that's what that one twitter guy said. Either way the ground seems pretty well packed

You are unable to assess the optics.

1 - Iran couldn't stop them from evacuating the pilot deep inside the country fighting against 200+ enemy soldiers.

2 - The US cares about its every single soldier and is ready to lose expensive equipment.

The American public will go drunk tonight. This operation will improve Trump's approval rating.

In a war, majorly of the times, the optics are equally important when evaluated against the physical wins.

Well lets wait and see, initial first contact reports are often wrong. My bet is if there was a massive firefight as reported, 2 C-130s on the ground may have been hit. Even in complete darkness and under tactical lighting conditions the noise and size would have made them stand out
