Don't take this the wrong way, but we've never turned our backs on our true allies. This is exactly why Hindus get so upset whenever there's news about Pak-Turk relations. The Syrians are our neighbors, but calling them 'allies' is a bit of a stretch. They do whatever they want, often even going against Turkish interests. In many situations, they have chosen GCC states over Turkey. You either don't understand the real nature of this relationship, or your view of Turkey's influence in Syria is mistaken.
Most people on this forum believe that Syria is somehow aligned with Turkey. Every time Ankara has had to push them to follow what they think is the right path. They hold the Saudis in much higher regard than Turkey. We can't even enter Syria without a visa anymore. Under Assad, the border between the two countries was similar to the inner borders of the EU.
We have significant shared interests with Damascus, but we will never go to war with Israel for them. Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Northern Cyprus, Albanians, and Bosnians are part of this very exclusive group, but Syrians are not included. Maybe this will change in the future, but for now, that’s just how it is.
The most significant divergence in our approach towards the Middle East is that nobody in Türkiye trusts anyone in this region, especially Arabs are still regarded as untrustworthy even among our religious and conservativemasses. Big difference with Iran.
Pakistani are an absolute outlier here. They enjoy respect even among hardcore Kemalists.
