probably a CIA asset. Most likely a Spy. Iranians are constantly fooled by the Americans. He will most likely gather intel that can be used by the CIA/Mossad in some form against Iran.
But you really do get this fetish among brown people that the moment a "white" person shows favour towards them, they basically rush to crown him king.

There are plenty of 'white' people with humanity who try to be on the side of justice in global affairs. We should not forget the millions who marched in Western capitals protesting the Iraq War 2003. We should not forget the young, beautiful American Rachel Corrie died from the Israeli bulldozer while she was trying to stop the Israelis from destroying Palestinian houses. We should not forget the Greek-Canadian journalist Dimitry Lascaris led a group of journalists making an arduous and dangerous journey from Turkey while Iran was just bombed. We should not forget many Western activists who take risk by leading fact finding missions about Israeli expansionism; Ray McGovern had to face the Israel tear gas when he was protesting in the West Bank. We should not forget powerful voices like Nicholas Kristof of NY Times who single handedly shamed Israel on the global scale by publishing the rape of Palestinian prisoners.

I can't speak for Jackson Hinkle but it appears he has switched to a reflexive anti Americanism since the Ukraine war started and has a strong connection with Moscow. He took up the Palestinian/Middle Eastern causes once the Gaza war started and that has shot him into prominence. Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly have become a major headache for Israel and even for MAGA crowd. Some Western activists are putting themselves in danger by physically going to the Middle East; Hinkle was in Yemen during the Gaza war on a stage while bombs were dropped in that region.

Take help from wherever. A 'white' person's voice carries more weight in shaping policies in Western societies. A journalist on the streets of Tehran is not a security risk in a country already full of spies and turncoats.
