For me, leverage isn't taking oil to 85 dollars and then reducing pressure on the asset by making really basic statements about wanting to talk to the US. It's taking the Americans to the brink by applying as much pressure in this area as possible, and then releasing it only to gain maximum concessions through negotiations.War and diplomacy go hand in hand. You gain leverage with various military , economic and diplomatic moves and then you use it to achieve goals in negotiations. This may take several rounds before a war finally concludes.
I think that's better than something like the Russia-Ukraine war which has turned into an endless meat-grinder. The only winner from conflicts like Russia-Ukraine are weapons makers.
These micro spikes followed by rapid de-escalation by MFA are just odd. If you're not going to make the Americans pay in bodybags, at least make them pay as much as possible at the pump!
