It takes literal wars to make these guys realize anything. I don't think there has ever been a more reactive polity than contemporary Iran. There is no progress or forward thinking, just reaction and complete passivity.

Sadaam had recruited THOUSANDS of Egyptians during that war with Iran , and Mubarak sent his generals there , you probably don't know that.
No offense to the user but he sometimes posts iffy stuff and I personally like getting my news mostly from CNN New York Times Haaretz(when it was mostly free( and Times of Israel Wall Street is usually legit not big on any foreign “news” since much of it in the Middle East is government controlled or has way to many dealings with that government(Israel)Do you believe that actually happened tho? I find it half a very doubtful
So USN is sailing across the ME region all on mercy of Iranian hesitation to go big? Both of your conversation I find interesting.
Im not so sure that Iran doesn't have the capability to hit US ships - when the war first started it turned out after the first ceasefire that there was a Arleigh Burke class destroyer inside the PG well within Iranian missiles docked close to Bahrain/Kuwait - it was not targeted despite the fact the US sunk an unarmed Iranian ship killing 80 plus sailors it would have given plenty justification.
Even in the current situation there has been satellite images of US AC sailing very close to the Iranian coast unescorted. To me atleast it seems Irans still holding back on a mass casualty event on the US side, I think they are calibrating their responses to keep US public opinion against trump.
If this really is the case, I actually think one must give the Iranians more credit - as there is some really clever and strategic thinking going on, not something you can say about the trump admin.
All is not lost still. But Iran seems adamant to carry on its proxy dependent defence strategies. We executed most of our generals, not just officers. But we also had the world's 5th largest air force at the time. The IRIAF at the time was formidable. We had 80 F-14s, which were equivalent to F-22 in terms of today aviation. We also had over 140 F-4s and F-5s in our inventory. The Iranian army was strong back then, even though we had executed most of our generals.
I prefer the Shah to the Islamic Republic for sure, but I don't like his son (Reza Pahlavi). However, I believe Mohammadreza Pahlavi (the last Shah) was better than the Islamic Republic and his policies were better for Iran.
We had no reason to waste our money on Arabs, particularly Palestinians. We also shouldn't have turned the US into our archenemy. Besides that, we spent over 30 years on a nuclear program that resulted in absolutely nothing for Iran. We spent billions of dollars in Syria, and even more money in Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Yemen, even countries like Sudan, Djibouti, all for naught.
Plus they had just come out of a devastating 8 year warIt doesn’t prove your claim that Iraq “was not strong”. Nobody would say Iraq of 1970s and 1980s was military weak. They had a nuclear program, a missile program, a chemical weapons program and had French and Soviet Union air defense and fighter jets alongside 4000+ tanks.
Sure, they couldn’t challenge America in 1991 in head to head conventional warfare, but there wasn’t a country on earth in 1991 that could do that. Including Russia or China. That doesn’t make Iraq weak.
Yes, we did try to purchase them, but the Russians have refused to deliver a single jet to Iran since 2021.and why didn't you buy the Egyptian cancelled su-35 deal from Russia? weren't there rumors that you want them ?
we have different opinions mate , but anyway you love your country and i admire that.
The French rented, not sold but rented, Mirage-F1 jet fighters to Iraq and later forgave the debt. The amount of support Iraq received and what Iraq turned into in 1990 should not be underestimated at all. What? Iraq had the 2nd largest military in the Arab world and had a mixture of modern Soviet and Western military equipment. By the end of war he had a 1 million man army.
People forget before 1990, Iraq was relatively wealthy and not under sanctions. During the war Arabs and Soviet Union gave over 100B dollars in loans for Saddam to buy the latest military equipment. Saddam had fierce loyalty of his generals and officers and chemical weapon delivery systems.
Not sure what revisionist history you read that suddenly makes Iraq weak in 1980.

They haven't learned anything , they lost f-18 from on top of a carrier while trying to evade a houthi missile ..I think they learned their lessons well in houthi compaign and got their defences at the right place against Iran.
Like I said not knocking you just not big on random siteshere is the U.S naval forces official website
USS Harry S. Truman Involved in Collision at Sea
As I said , next time U.S f*** with us , it will be more than EW accident.
Before the Iran revolution, USSR armed Iraq to the teeth as a counterweight to Iran. These excerpts are from the US senate discussion on the sale of E-3 AWACS to Iran in 1978.It doesn’t prove your claim that Iraq “was not strong”. You do know that U.S navy always gets slapped in this area , right? Not to mention the fact that the usn is more powerful then anything Egypt can dish out.
