They can close the strait. The political leaders of the Islamic Republic just dont want to fully close it because they want to continue the situation of "no war no peace" until America breaks.










Instead of waiting for America to break they should start attacking ships while they are at Port Fujairah, cracking down on strait transit, and instructing the houthis to direct there attacks at the port of Yanbu instead of Aramco facilities elsewhere.




To add this I would like to remind people that ships passing through the straight of hormuz can be seen by telescope on the narrowest part of the strait. You literally just need to shine a laser across the straight and watch it bounce back to track a ship.
