If Iran wants to escalate the best thing for it to do is to strike US troop barracks or cut undersea internet cables. It will have the desired effect of ending the war sooner rather than later while preventing the war from escalating into an infrastructure war.

I disagree. I live in America and cost of living here including food and gas prices are skyrocketing due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The last time I filled the gas tank of my Subaru Forester, I paid almost $70. In the past, I used to pay roughly $43.

The food prices are 3 times what they used to be as well. Everything else is also going through the roof. The economy is also slowing down, and the US Dollar is also losing value as reserve currency.

All of that comes down to one thing: The Iranian squeeze on the Strait of Hormuz is having a huge impact. And if they can maintain this squeeze till the midterms in 2026, they will definitely overthrow the Republicans in the US Congress.

It seems the U.S. will be HEAVILY bombing Iran after the mid terms. Trump wants to avoid rocking the boat before then to avoid hurting his parties chances any more than he already has.

But after mid terms, Trump is a free unchained man to do whatever he wishes with no political repercussions

I think US would remain Dominant Superpower throughout this century. China, even if it starts today will not be able to match the US' global military footprint in another 100 years.
And to be honest, Chinese aren't even interested in countering American posture for whatever reason and you have no other country in sight that can challenge the American global reach - militarily & economically.

So your best bet is to have doomsday option against America or just playalong.
