In Spanish, there’s an old saying: "When shepherds gather... a sheep ends up dead." But we won’t live to see that happen. I wish they’d just kill that goddamn, shitty sheep.
Diplomacy has been given it's chance. Iran cannot complain that it was not and Iran cannot complain that it was not effectively engaged, it has been.
To date, the Gulf countries have taken a passive role in actively defending their civilian and energy assets when Iran has attacked them by not militarily striking Iran back(there were some instance of UAE responding selectively though). While they have not restrained the USA from attacking Iran from bases on their country(and the are absolute c---s for not doing so), they themselves have not attacked Iran even with the provocations on their civilian infrastructure and restriction of their trade flows.
At some point, that could change and Iran will need to be mindful of that with the decisions it makes and the actions it will take.
However, if this war does restart again and Iran starts to systematically destroy civilian and energy infrastructure in the Gulf, then the Gulf countries may well not take such a passive role again and they may start to actively respond with attacks on Iranian Infrastructure in reply to their infrastructure being destroyed.
The combined air forces of fighter jets for the Saudi, Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE alone is in the region of 700 modern jets. They can do a lot of damage on their own on Iran, if the need arises and combined with the USA air force and others, it can be a significant force.
Judging by the noises coming out of the meeting in Tehran, there has been no agreement to date, so it seems that Iran has made one set of decisions for itself with what has presented in those meetings. There are others than Iran will need to make, and actually own as well.
While this war was forced on Iran, it will still have to own its part of what happens from now on.
These are all big boy decisions, and significant history is being made before us.
