For Russia, if the US escalating a full scale war against Iran can divert most of its military resources from Ukraine to Iran. It gonna greatly relieve Russia's pressure.

For Trump, it is impossible for him to beat China in a trade war or hot war, and he needs to claim some credit for his coming midterm election. And Iran is going to be an easy target for him. Also, assists Israel to destroy Iran gonna greatly improve his ties with the AIPAC lobbyists.

So China will assist Iran if the US is officially getting involved.
