I was really hoping Russia and China would be stepping up to help us, I do want to admit, this something we as Iranians failed at....we should've have asked for iron clad guarantees for giving them oil and investment rights so they could make money from us.......but, like I said, our leadership is old and not world weary enough.

Many mistakes Iran has committed in the past.

Using proxies to support minorities in certain regional countries was one of them. Iran made the whole region its enemy. Even at times, Iran took actions that might have hurt Pakistan. Majority of people in the gulf think that gulf countries are in the lap of the US because they always faced some kind of threat from Iran, and hence they chose to go under the protection of the west, which they can't let go now as it is now forced upon them. They blame Iran for their own dependencies.
