I think a American strike is more or less decided at this point but the question still remains how and when it will be done.

I don't think the US will attack. Trump is just trying to wear down the Iranians with psyops. He will find some other excuse to delay after two weeks.

Beyond the failure to agree on deal terms, the truth is that neither side was particularly eager about the J-10 transaction. China was concerned about further antagonizing the West — and also some Sunni-majority countries. (Let’s not forget that Iran and Saudi Arabia only restored diplomatic ties in 2023.)

As for Iran, the J-10 wasn’t its only option — and to be honest, it may have been a lower-priority choice compared to others.

Oct 7th likely happened without Iranian approval so they were probably caught off guard, plus things like decapitation strikes plus the whole pager episode likely weakened Hezbollah very quickly.

Why didn't Iran order them earlier?

I am talking about F-16s and F-15s. They have about 174 F-16, 66 F-15 and only 45 F-35.

J-10 could have dealt with the F-16s and F-15s, that's the bulk of the force. 45 units of F-35 could not generate the amount of sorties they are generating now. So a big percentage of stand off bomb and missiles attacks by F-16 and F-15s could have been thwarted.

After all this is over. The iranian must go for J-10, J-35, KJ500 completely modernise on chinese system.
