If Russian had made good on its promise and delivered the Sukhois to Iran, Israel may not have actually went through with the strikes. If they did, Iran would have been able to challenge Israel's air dominance, slow down if not completely stop the strikes while delivering its own via missiles. Modern airforce is not just about the jets. Way, way more than that. People might benefit from the India-Pakistan May 2025 conflict. First time in human history, so many advanced gadgets, jets, satellites, EW, strategies were utilized between two peer-powers with a lot of preparations, training on both sides. IF Iran had invested in similar setup decades ago, then, maybe it would have helped otherwise their jets would be destroyed on the ground!

I believe Iran made right approach: Ballistic missiles in large numbers AND in investing in the proxies right next to Israel. They need to find a replacement for the lost proxies. And fast.

Indians, in desperation boasts about the 'civilizational ties' with Iran. WTH?! The ties exist because of the Muslims of the Indo Pak subcontinent and the Zoroastrian-Hindu ties were so old, much smaller in comparison.
Iranians, on the other hand, really misunderstood Pakistan. Yes, Pakistan was in the American camp, Yes, Pakistan was in the Arab camp. But only to some extent and never to the detriment of Iran itself. Pakistanis have been extracting whatever they can from the Americans and the Arabs to fortify Pakistan against India, which is the single most important concern for Pakistan for the last eight decades. We all saw what happened in May 2025: India can't be ignored by Pakistan.

The post revolution Iranian establishments have repeatedly miscalculated and botched their foreign policy, isolating themselves. Hopefully, they will now pivot and towards the Chinese. They need to remove the sectarian lenses, tone down their rhetoric, stop over-reaching into every country around them, and pursue a foreign policy solely focused on forming regional economic and military ties, instead of rivalries and losing horses. They can leave the Saudis and Emiratis as they are but the reasonless poking between them, Pakistan, and Turkey needs to end. All three countries have a fair bit to offer each other and no serious issues.

They also need to tone it down against the US. With a power disparity of this magnitude you need to be smart, work with/around it, and build yourself up. A quieter, less aggressive, but stronger and more engaged Iran will be better for Iranians, Muslims, the region, and the Palestinians.

The USA should lease 4 or 5 B-52's to Israel, on a few year term, and sell Israel 5 or six GBU-57's. Let Israel decide what to do about Iranian nuclear facilities on its own. Sure B-52's are vulnerable but let Israel deal with the tactics problems of using them to deliver GBU-57's. If it takes 3 months for Israel to assimilate the B-52's into a tactical option, let the Iranians think about their choices for that long.
