Iran's entire doctrine was sound and built upon the proxies next to Israel and the ballistic missiles. Nukes have been out of question without the kind of effort Pakistan did, with a nod of approval from the big powers, for at least 15 years.

I get you but Iran had several chances to withdraw from the NPT and start building the bomb, especially after Trump tore up the JCPOA and murdered Qassem Soleimani who was on a diplomatic mission. All experts agree that Iran had mastered the whole nuclear cycle and was/is a "Threshold nuclear state" - meaning it had the technical expertise, infrastructure, and materials needed to produce a nuclear weapon, but it has not officially built or tested one. I think it was a huge strategic blunder.

But they kept relying on those returned scholars from the west to build up a link for economic ties with the west.

They have failed to understand that the economic ties and the geopolitics nowadays are inseparable, and you cannot expect that the CIA/Mossad won't target you through your beloved iPhone or MacBook.

It is understandable if you are a normal civilian who are not a high value target and opts for the western gadgets, but if you are high-ranked government official/military leader, you need to remain vigilant in all aspects.

Iran did make bad decision in the past, and even many of your compatriots do admit that mistake.

For now, no option left for Iran, and China is the only remaining option.

If you can find more capable/reliable partner than China, then go for it. Since everyone has the right to choose the most optimized option for themselves.

And the past, China was also plagued by the pro-west reformists like Iran, and those people were just indoctrinated by those US institutions and they all carried the mission to weaken their motherland in the favor of the west, and eventually opt for a color revolution.

Iran's relationship with India is better than Iran's relationship with China.

If we say anything against India, Iranians might think we are just saying it because we are Pakistani or Chinese.
