Another SU-30/35 rumor

Khayal Moazzin is a highly credible journalist and often reports on behind the curtain transcaucasian politics between Iran and Russia or Iranian matters with Turkey.

My take:

- BT's report of actual order including 12 X SU-30SM/SM (Flanker-H) is true. He said that IRIAF plans to use them as trainers for SU-35S fleet. Now Khayal is repeating the same thing about SU-30SM along with SU-35S. They are dual seaters and their weapon suite matches with SU-35S, they can wear Khibiny ECM and fire R-37. Makes senses as multirole fighters but also trainers.

- Russia can probably deliver 24 airframes at best for now but cant produce SU-35S or SU-30SM for Iran (BT reported order of 68 SU-35S, 12 SU-30SM, 12 x YAK-130) since their own needs are immense right now. So there is a good possibility that licensed CKD production like that of SU-30MKI (India) can start in Iran. Someone on twitter was saying that Russia doing this will benefit from it in future because now they can have not one but two production sources of Flankers if a production line starts in Iran. They can barely produce 10-12 airframes a year for now.

- If someone noticed, IAIO production facilities are being expanded at fast pace in recent times.

Hypersonic Fattah 1/2 or KS on Flanker can mean business. Both of these missiles made fun of Israeli Air Defence and are barely 4-5K KG which Flanker can lift for fun.

A direct delivery of 24 fly-away SU-35's would at this stage give the IRIAF a well deserved confidence boost.

SU-35S or SU-30SM

If rumors of batches of F-14 pilots being trained in Russia were true and YAK-130 can simulate the missions for SU-35S then yes otherwise would not make any difference for now. Air forces need years for training to finally localize a platform. They then create new plans, and strategies to tackle scenarios.

If it were additional airframes of MIG-29SMT then adaptibility would be quick but MIG29 or any lighter platform itself has no use for Iranian geography.

Other than su34, what is the heaviest single object flankers ever carry?

Flanker's structure is not good at carrying one heavy missile, but many small ones and plenty of fuel.

Flanker airframe can carry 3000 Tons Oniks. Fattah is like 3.6 Tons not a huge difference.

Although the RCS of such a system will be huge but who cares if the launch point is somewhere where chances of engagement are just Zero.

up limit is about 2.5 tons, half fuel, low g fly like a Boeing otherwise risk structure damage.

If Mig-31 can carry a 4+ tonnes Kinzhal missile then Sukhoi can easily carry a 3+ tonnes missile without structural damage.

If this rumor regarding Su-30/35 ends up being true then the next step would be going after Su-75 local production once it is ready.
