Iranian Air Force (IRIAF/IRGC-ASF) | News and Discussions

Atawolf, I posted those videos 3 times more without writing any comment and they got deleted
Maybe because you posted them with the explicit intention of provoking or making agitating blanket statements for some nonsensical reason. Might be fun to engage people like that, as i did myself but I don't blame the mods for deleting them lol. Fully justified. Noboby cares about the actual video itself, its pretty normal to compare within the proper context.

I'm lowkey mad I did not use this as username tho.

Hopefully the pilots are ok? ... or is this old?

Another reminder that we need to renew our fleet ASAP
- MiG-29/35 x 100 ~
- Su-35 x 50 to 100
- Su-30 x 100
- optionally Su-34 or MiG-31
This wouldn't be realistic even if you had triple the current gdp Iran has. Building a fighter jet fleet takes decades and is a gradual process. If you want everything on this list, by the time you get all of the airframes they would not be remotely cutting edge. Nevermind the mindboggling costs of maintenance, logistics, training, armaments, infrastructure and etc. Imo best Iran can do is acquire around 6-7 squadrons of high-low airframes and go from there. I know its somewhat unpopular, but JF-17 would be perfect by every metric.

A very old aircraft certainly requires more hours of maintenance and theoretically the probability of accidents increases as it gets older, but it should be remembered that even new aircraft are subject to accidents which lead to their loss.
Accidents can be limited by having excellent technicians available who guarantee maintenance and have spare parts available.
Certainly Iran has demonstrated that it has the front line with enormous knowledge of its current aircraft and how to obtain or make replacements.
When and if new 4++ generation aircraft arrive it will be a big leap forward for the Iranian Air Force, but it will also be a huge commitment for the technicians who will have to learn to manage and work on these aircraft completely different from those currently supported.

60 su-35 till 2027 is enough... then we need 5th and 6th gen ....
Well. Su 35 it is a long range heavy superiority fighter.

So IRIAF would need a lighter fighter for CAS, COIN, LIFT trainer, etc. Newer kowsar are ok or even some Mig 35 would fill that gap.
So 2 or 3 squadrons of Mig 35 and another 2 or 3 of Kowsar would fulfill most of the combat missions of IRIAF.

The problem is in other countries newer crashed aircraft (or even old) get replaced. In Iran there hasn’t been any fighter jets in decades if you remove the Kowsar project. So every crashed plane is one less plane in Iran’s already shrinking force ready airforce.

Luckily this was an F-4, if it was an F-14 its loss would be a lot more painful.

How many of the 78 or so F-14s in the IRIAF are still in flying condition today? 20 to 30?

Until the last decade or so, 56 airframes were operational. 2 or 3 were in storage/ refurb situ and half a dozen or so mothballed with various bits cannibalized over the years.

Tom Cooper/ Farzad Bishop is the source from their book 'Persian Tomcats in combat' I believe.
