So are they going to be configured to hunt down drones?
These performed pretty poorly in Ukraine. Anyone can pull up videos of MI helicopters being taken down by manpads during the Ukraine invasion/early war.
I remember seeing a video early in the war when 10+ of them were flying into Ukraine and hidden short range air defense and manpad teams shot multiple ones down.
The KA-52 took decent losses as well, but faired better than the MI attack helicopters due to its electronic suite.
This purchase doesn’t really make sense at this time, as helicopters are mostly ground attack assets and not what Iran needs at this particular time. Even if this order was placed 3-4 years ago, still doesn’t make sense. Attack helicopters should be the least of Iran’s concern right now.
Maybe this was all that Russia was offering Iran for its Shahed assistance. We keep hearing about SU-35’s that are coming next year, sounds a lot like the SU-30/YAK-130s that Assad waited for.
