Recent events have shown how corrupt the Syrian army has been. It is even possible that the Syrian army itself has paved the way for Israel's attack.

If they got steamrolled in not even two weeks by HTS, this means SAA was critically compromised and unable to defend or fight back, this gave the opportunity to raid basically anything inside Syria without any resistance, everything was abandoned, this facility was probably abandoned for months or even years, the air force and all army branches were also idle and probably abandoned or crippled
Syria was probably in this state for years, SAA never hit back in the past years, they were crippled and dying from the inside, HTS steamroll was just a question of time

Because like I have told you before. Life isn’t a video game or Hollywood movie.
What were those “dozens” of soldiers going to do the other 10 years the base never got invaded by a commando team? Sit around and play cards? Play tag?
Chances are those dozens of soldiers would have been wiped out by air strikes by close air support. If you read the reports Israel did several airstrike in the area and region to prevent anyone from investigating the site. Then the special forces would have wiped out the remaining members.

Looks like Iran buckled to Russian demands in the end.
Like I said, Putin wasn’t willing to give Iran ANYTHING or sign the cooperation agreement without Iran showing their loyalty to the Russian cause.
While I doubt Iran will get the North Korea treatment (iron clad security agreeement). It will likely path the way for SU-35s to arrive and maybe some deeper cooperation.
Let’s see how it plays out.

Err, the base was 100-150m underground and if they need to play cards to protect such an important base then so be it.

so far we only see short range missile systems like HIMARS equivalents rather than longer range Zolfaqar or even Fateh-110
Europe has been incredibly anti-Iran in recent years so not much to be gained by abiding by their demands here when giving Russia something opens up Su-35 and space cooperation. Russia is more important to Iran than Europe under a hostile Trump admin

No the base wasn’t 100m underground. The “missile production” facility was underground. And you arent going to station the soldiers around highly volatile propellants, static fuel mixers, missiles, down in those hallways below ground. That’s just asking for accident.
The missile facility It’s located in the science research area which is a big area that had been targeted in the past many many times. Its a well known area known to back Assad’s missile and chemical research and production arm.
I am arguing with logic, you think you can just throw 100 special forces soldiers to sit at a site that may or may not ever get raided. It just doesn’t work that way. And if it does get raided then your enemy has full control of the skies which means all those soldiers will just be bombed and killed. Barracks and living quarters would be hit before the raid. During the raid commando units would be calling out enemy locations above ground for air support or drones to take out.
Every western special forces raid always has air support, drones, and spy satellites above when they conduct a high value raid. It’s their protocol along with conducting it on a moonless late night. That’s their hallmark.
When you lose control of the air space, that is what happens.
This isn’t new, even before the civil war, Israel conducted a commando raid on tartus to remove a Syrian general. Assad was always compromised with moles and spies. Im sure Iran/HZ knew the site was compromised and would eventually be raided or destroyed. It served its purpose for as long as it existed.

Russia needs HIMARS equivalents. Thats what make the difference on capturing territory and advancing the frontlines. It doesn’t need as much longer range BMs. It can reach that far already with its own CM and BM arsenal.
The timing is significant because iran by all indications has shown they want to at least give the nuclear negotiations a chance and by doing this prior to the negotiations it can certaintly piss off the West.
I also believe the loss of Syria likely played a role in this. Iran likely feels it needs to flex its muscles. Without Syria being the battlefield and buffer zone for Iran, the enemy will now focus on its own soil.

Raid was a few months ago IIRC.
Rumors of the raid came from Syrian sources back in August. It was before the beeper incident and Nasrallah was still alive. Many on here (like usual) refused to believe it took place and said it was Zionist sources even though the original source was Syrian.

well they are being loaded on a ship for export across the Caspian Sea. the only likely customer is Russia so I dont think there is much plausible deniability here

Maybe I am wrong, but seems they didn´t seize even a complete rocket. No warheads, no engines, no integrated circuit... no stock of any class. Seems that the factory was already out ot order.

It wouldn’t surprise me since there was many many airstrike on the research site, it’s like a Parchin if I recall. So it’s directly tied to Assad’s BM and chemical program. And he likely allowed Iran to also help supply HZ since transporting complete missiles thru the Iraq border was no longer an option with constant Israeli air strikes.
