what benefit you get if your base is 1500km away from shore compared to when its at shore?
Limited access to resources. Much larger contingency planning, etc

thats why they must stick to shore , deep inside Antarctica is a logistic nightmare for half the year

Iran lacks suitable icebreakers unlike Russia (nuclear powered icebreaker) or NATO.

So how does Iran plan to resupply the base in case of emergency or seasonally when ice formation is too thick?

I believe that’s the whole point. Forbidding environments like these are excellent for test and training.

and disaster and waste of money . try to live in -70c for several month and you see how good it is.
if we build a base there we must get something out of it .

Well considering state of Iran’s manned space program, I doubt the main reason would be to train astronauts.

Even Nazi’s had fascination with military bases on the poles.

The utility lies in what happens when they melt and the race for all those natural resources (oil, gas, minerals, etc) picks up. That is what US and Russia want - to stake their flag on those assets.

I imagine a lot of research teams are pseudo teams trying to map the where the largest energy basins are.

^ sounds kinda IRGC-N-esque

Yeah, seems US Navy goes IRGN!!!!!
Anyway IRGN FACs equipped with IR/EO devices and radars and some IA assisted can create OWA boat with Almas and guided MLRS that could deffinitively kick off the Persian Gulf any Task Force and foreign flotilla.

Not sure but on which ships are installed the WW2 era version of Oerlikon?

They have the similar helmets

Imagining that Iran bought those british frigates in the 65-70s, this is still a complete different version from the WW2 Oerlikon

Iran made a Copy of 76mm canon, i don't see why they wouldn't do this with the Oerlikons

are you sure its not another botched up Iranian media work that they take something of the net and slap it into the news without knowing about what they do

and about our ww2 20mm cannons

they were supposed to be training vessels for Iranian personnel so when we receive Kidd-class destroyer they be ready sadly those orders get cancelled
