Although if you were going to assassinate him due to internal power struggles a la Roman Empire, you got the opportunity on a platter with them flying a 1960’s helicopter in monsoon conditions.

Probably just Occam’s razor. But internal assassination cannot be completely discounted.

Not necessarily. If anything, it would be much safer not to have a satellite linkage of any kind.

How big is the threat to many top Iranian officials? I always give any military institution the complete benefit of the doubt until everything is figured out. These are professionals and not some rinky dink operation. If anyone should know the reasons why you don't adhere to those standard protocols all the time like you mentioned is you fellas in India. How many precautions do you folks take to make sure ISL in Pakistan isn't able to spy and know who's where, when and why in India to protect them? What did Iran have to deal with when the demons -- unfortunately at the behest of the US -- hacked into Iran's nuclear facilities' computers and set off a chain of viruses that ruined several centrifuges? How many of their top scientists have been targeted for assassination? How many currently have a bullseye on their backs? They've learned know what to do and what not to do, and this could easily be something along those lines. Unfortunately, that's what Iran's security apparatus has to deal with. I never like to chastise any military (except for one murderous scum-sucking hog) because most of the top ones such as Iran aren't operated by donkeys who don't know what they're doing. Worst of all is to think that a bunch of us on a forum think we do more than them.

Fog is inevitable and also creeps up on you anytime and in any place, it's unavoidable. You just need the proper equipment and personnel to navigate through it and there is no doubt that was the case here, just bad luck and overwhelming circumstances. Could happen to the best of the best.

Target assassination of sitting president= immediate war
 
There has been a repeated pattern of assassinations targeting civilian scientists, high-ranking military officers, and government officials in Iran.
And now, a helicopter carrying the President suddenly crashes near a country allied with Israel, at this particular time.
It is difficult to accept that this is just a coincidence or an accident.

Caution to differentiate causation from correlation.

Given that, regardless of unlikely possibilities, it seems Raisi was, in fact, being groomed for the SL position. I might be wrong.

Given the history of the IRI, if the worst comes true, this will not have a long term impact on the IRI.

Still, it is not an excuse for terrible security procedures.
