a) maybe the operators got caught in the middle of deploying them to the fields?

b) the operators had moved away from the drones, but clustered together and were targeted anyway.
 
I think it shouldnt be that difficult to develop a simple low observable low cost interceptor uav as an improvement over Karrar drones.

A top inlet would make the drone take off from rough concealed gravel/dirt/grass runways. Tradeoff is maneuvrability but interceptors dont need maneuvrability that much.

Valkyrie has internal bays but no landing gear and uses parachute for landing with rocket take off. But landing gear is planned in future versions.


For Iranian version a landing gear can be added trading off from internal bays. An external enclosed weapons bay would still provide stealth to carry air to air missiles. It can carry wvr missiles for the initial development iterations. Later improvements can add bvr missiles as well.


A further imrpovement iteration for later stages of production is 2 engine high speed variant of the same concept like this Chinese exemple:



Production also needs to be planned and is problematic for Iran which is under ongoing conflict with usa. If it is produced underground and stored at the same place it should be well protected like the ballistic missile mountain bases. Another option is producing parts in batches in smaller concealed production facilities. Parts can then be transferred-assembled and stored in concealed smaller dispersed higher number of underground sites. Just like ballistic missiles these items need to be protected to a sufficient degree when air superiority is lost by using concealment tactics or mountain bases.

Curious we never saw a document case of Iran’s RQ-170 based drones in this war, from the small ones to the medium ones to the 1:1 copy. I’d figure they would have been used unless they all got destroyed in the open days (unlikely).
 
In recent days, the Aerospace Force of the Guard tested a modern drone that was able to breach all air defenses and strike its target in Aqaba, Jordan, without the possibility of detection by the enemy and its allies.

Curious we never saw a document case of Iran’s RQ-170 based drones in this war, from the small ones to the medium ones to the 1:1 copy. I’d figure they would have been used unless they all got destroyed in the open days (unlikely).

Were the RQ-170's produced in large numbers? The last time I read about it was on the old forum where according to the news, a prototype was used against Israel where it dodged several SAM's and was taken down by an Israeli AH-64. I forgot the location where it used.

Various models were mass produced while the 1:1 size copy was likely not mass produced due to engine issues and limited use case without sat com datalink

Ukraine is launching 10,000 drones against Russian per month, or 350 per day

during the first week (the most intense) of the war this year, Iran only fired an average of 100-120 drones per day

Iran is 3.4x the size of Ukraine (excluding Russian occupied regions)... much more work is needed here

can start with small drone manufacturing workshops in every town and neighbourhood and training of drone launcher crews led by Basij or IRGC units in each region (Artesh is functionally non existent at this point)

Except Iran is fighting Russia. Its fighting the US + Israel. Russian airforce is irrelevant while America and Israel have the best airforces in the world.
