Belarus_starts_local_manufacturing_of_Iranian_Shahed-136_drones_as_Nomad_925_001-ac96320c.webp

Shahed 136s and VALs unveiled in Belarusian service under the name "Nomad"[кочевник].

Interestingly altho it has also "geran-2" written on it the sat nav antenna resembles the ones typically seen on iranian shahed 136s,in addition you also have the Vehicle Assisted Launcher which is another iranian feature that has not been seen in russian service.

Makes sense for Russia and China. Iran cannot complain about this after reverse engineering everything it can get its hands on.

That’s built under license and not a true S-136. Iran didn’t share its tech and Russian went cheaper materials (than even Iran).

It seems Russia and China are building their own variant after lessons learned against NATO backed forces/equipment.

Design isn’t even Iranian, it’s a German design from the 70’s/80’s that never really took off. Likely some Iranian engineer returned back to Iran after spending his life in German arms production and shared his idea with Iran.

That being said, the fact that Iran is excluded from this “co production” speaks volumes about the state of this “strategic” relationship we have with Russia or China.

I don’t understand. What’s the issue exactly?

Great. Belarus needs this drone against Polish snakes. Patriot batteries will be the primary targets of Shahed drones in the hands of Belarus.

Come on, nobody believes Iran is as important to Russia or China than they are to each other. Both are trillion dollar economies with nuclear triads and seats on the UNSC. Iran is a $400 billion economy which is financially toxic to interact with due to US secondary sanctions and only the 4th largest oil producer (below Iraq). Russia/China's relations with Saudi Arabia is as important, if not more, than their relations with Iran.

The only nuance is Iran's deeper relations with Russia since the start of the war. We haven't seen many tangible impacts but it is logical that relations have improved due to Iran's supply of weapons. But that doesn't mean Russia has to co-produce new military projects with Iran when it can partner with China instead.
