Iranian UAVs | News and Discussions

The engine it is many times more powerful than a Rotax 912/914 piston engine!!!. Hope IRGC mastered turboprop engines.

Problem with these mohajir /Gaza/ bayraftar and MQ-9 Wing loong types is they get shot down relatively easy.

Customer gets disheartened and disillusioned then like the Al-Jordanian and Al-Sawdi or the Al-Iraqi no?

It’s getting harder to sell them.

Their role is to replace expensive manned aircraft in low-intensity conflicts against opponents with limited air defenses, fighting opponents like Russia and Ansarallah are not really what they are designed for. Doesn't mean they are useless. They just have to be used appropriately. And even then, if they do get shot down, it's still cheaper than losing a fighter or even worse a pilot.

Iran can use these against talibunny or Baluchi terrorist groups or Azeri banana types, but these won't work against NATO. Just like Bayraftar drone in Syria or Armenia or the MQ-9/ CH-4/ wing loongs in Yemen.

So easy to shoot down.

The only way to make them hard to detect and impossible to shoot down is increasing its altitude and adding EW capability to it. The US made MQ-4 is the leading one in this class of drones.

But in case of a full war, i would rather prefer to lose a drone than losing a fighter jet along with its pilot. No fighter jet in the world is immune to complex air defense network. Drones are smaller and harder to detect.

Don't forget USA sent MQ-4 to test IADS of Iran. Instead of risking an F-22, they sent a high altitude drone armed with EW asset and Iranian air defense shot it down at the altitude of close to 18 Km. Which means nothing can escape from Iranian IADS. It caused USAF completely forget about invading Iranian airspace with other manned or unmanned platforms.

Bayraktar is not in same class of Gaza drone, they are different.

And other example to prove necessity of such drones is, During Saddam invasion of Iran, Iran's heroic pilots had to fly Phantoms in low altitude and do hard manuevers that in some cases inflicted damages on pilots too due to intense G force.

Imagine if we had Gaza drone at that time. We could target Saddam in his palace and end war within hours and rid Iraqis of that bastard.

Even if Iraq or any other country could shoot them down, we could send more and more instead of losing valuable Phantom fighter jets and more valuable pilots.

Iran has released footage of exercises with the Shahed-149 Gaza heavy reconnaissance and strike UAV. The video shows the Shahed-149 dropping a Sadid-345 bomb at one of the training grounds. The Shahed-149 Gaza UAV has been produced by Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industries Corporation since 2022. The UAV is equipped with a new chassis system and weapon suspension points. It can stay in the air for more than 35 hours and cover more than 7,000 km in one sortie. The drone's flight speed is up to 400 km / h, flight altitude is up to 11,000 meters. The UAV's power plant is a 750 hp engine. The Iranian Sadid-345 aerial bomb is guided to the target via a video channel, a laser beam, or an IR homing head. The bomb weighs 34 kg, the warhead is cumulative, the flight range is up to 6 km.
