Iraq News and Discussion

Advisor to the Iraqi Prime Minister, Hussein Allawi, confirms reports that negotiations are underway to disarm the PMF.

Five factions, including the infamous Asaib Ahl al-Haq, have agreed to disarm, while Kataib Hezbollah and al-Nujaba are imposing conditions, citing security concerns related to Syria and the Peshmerga.

Al-Sharq Al-Awsat reported earlier today that the militias in the PMF umbrella begun disarming following Israeli threats of airstrikes should they fail to do so.

Iraq is a joke of a state, And the Iraq "Resistance" is the worst and most pathetic of the bunch. Disarming over a threat of bombardment, when Hezbollah and even Hamas refused while far more isolated.

Actually, a significant minority among the Iraqi Shia community holds an unfavorable view of Iran. This is a fact that is often ignored by our neighbors.

Whats funny is this guy is not one of those guys, he was an Iranian diehard he went to Syria on their orders, and went many places to fight for them, now he is upset at being abandoned by them which he blames on a deal or agreement of sorts between Iran and the US.

There is mixed reporting that the Iraqi militias have agreed to disband and hand over their weapons to the Iraqi Army.

Some Militias made some comments while others have denied.
Doubtful but there’s always reports don’t disagree many militias need to be disbanded be it outside government supported or just internal Libya Iraq Syria and so on just prolongs violence instead of ending it

Report for the French website Avions Légendaires, specialized in military aviation affairs:
- Negotiations are at their end.. This year will witness the signing of the contract between Iraq and "Dassault Aviation" for the purchase of 14 Rafale aircraft
- Negotiations between Baghdad and Paris include Baghdad's purchase of ten single-seat Rafale C aircraft and four twin-seat Rafale B aircraft, along with equipping the aircraft with MICA NG and Meteor missiles
- These aircraft will grant the Iraqi Air Force the necessary air superiority capabilities to prevent both Iran and Israel from entering its sovereign airspace
- Iraqi pilots, during Operation North which took place in late 2025 with complete secrecy, flew alongside their French counterparts, and they were given several opportunities to train together and observe the differences between their F-16 aircraft and the Rafale fighter jets, and each time the French twin-engine aircraft clearly outperformed
- Two of Iraq's senior officers, Major General Ali Majid Muhammad and his deputy Colonel Iyad Ahmed Rokan, are currently in France and are participating in the advanced training program and operational qualification for future pilots of French Rafale aircraft
- Iraq's initial interest in this aircraft dates back to 1989; at that time, the Baathist dictator Saddam Hussein enjoyed significant support from French authorities. The French aircraft was merely an experimental prototype back then, but Iraq desired it intensely. However, the invasion of Kuwait in August 1990 completely changed the situation.

The French source talks about a good number of mica ng and meteor missiles, as air-to-air missiles for future Iraqi Rafale F4 fighters..

What is new and published for the first time are the AASM 250 air-to-surface missiles, precision-guided missiles with abnormal accuracy!

250 kg warhead

The other missile in Iraq's future Rafale armament package, the AASM 1000, is a terrifying guidance guide

With a range similar to 250 AASM and may be less than that due to its huge weight, as the weight of the warhead in the missile is 1000 kg

Designed to hit fortified targets, underground targets, and massive strategic targets

The Iranian regime puppets in Iraq are falling apart and losing popular support at a fast rate. Nor did those backward and incompetent militia cults succeed in moving Iraq (official government and military in particular) away from KSA and fellow Arab countries whose foothold in Iraq is only growing economically. The historical, cultural, ethnic, linguistic, religious and everything else was already there and will be there permanently given the ancient (since recorded history began) kinship and ties.

It is important for idiotic cult leaders like Wathiq al-Battat to expose the Iranian regime and its allies in Iraq and what they are doing. Considering that he was one of their biggest slaves to the point that he publicly stated that he would fight for Iran against his own supposed country (Iraq) a few years back.

In general there is a huge discontent among Iraqi Shia Arabs for their pro-Iranian regime aligned groups and clergy. More youth turning towards Iraqi and Arab nationalism as well and wanting much closer ties with the Arab world. Basically a return to normalcy.

Evolving Ties: Saudi Arabia’s Political and Societal Engagement in Iraq

Iraq and Saudi Arabia sign military cooperation agreement amid regional tensions

Six Iran-aligned Iraqi factions said on Sunday that they refuse to discuss their weapons before what they described as the end of all forms of “occupation”, a veiled reference to the US military presence in the country. The statement came in response to growing calls to place all weapons under state control, particularly from Washington.

The factions, which are aligned with Tehran and operate within the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF)— part of Iraq’s official security forces — have long demanded the withdrawal of US troops deployed as part of the international coalition against the Islamic State group since 2014. The United States has maintained political and security influence in Iraq since its 2003 invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein.

In recent months, US calls to disarm these factions have increased, especially following the parliamentary elections held in November and amid a decline in the regional role of Iran’s allies in the post-war phase in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement issued late on Sunday, the Iraqi Resistance Coordination Committee said: “The weapons of the resistance are sacred, especially in a country where occupation still exists.” It added that it “categorically rejects any discussion of this issue by external parties”.

The group stressed that “any dialogue on this matter, even with the government, can only take place after full sovereignty is achieved and the country is freed from all forms of occupation and its threats”.

The committee includes Kataib Hezbollah, Asaib Ahl al-Haq, Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada, Kata’ib Karbala, Ansar Allah al-Awfiya and Harakat al-Nujaba.

It also urged the next government to “end all forms and titles of foreign occupying presence on Iraqi land and in its airspace and prevent any influence it may have, whatever its form, whether political, security-related or economic”.

The statement was issued hours after comments by the head of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zaidan, who said: “There is no longer a need for weapons outside the framework of legitimate institutions. The battle has ended, and the new challenges require a different kind of weapon — law, justice and development.”

Iraq takes full control of Ain al Asad airbase after US withdrawal: defence ministry

The Iraqi military assumed control of the Ain al Asad Airbase in western Anbar province following the withdrawal of US-led coalition forces, the defence ministry announced.

The ministry said on Sunday that the army formally took over the management of the base after the international coalition troops left the facility.

Chief of General Staff General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah inspected the site to oversee the distribution of duties and responsibilities among Iraqi units following the handover, according to the state news agency INA.
The US-led international coalition was established in 2014 to combat the Daesh terror organisation after the group captured Mosul and large swathes of Iraqi territory.

In addition to the Ain al Asad Airbase, coalition forces have historically operated out of a central base in Baghdad, facilities in Erbil and various training camps.

Iraq’s MOC, China’s EBS complete longest horizontal oil well

  • January 21, 2026
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq’s Midland Oil Company (MOC), in collaboration with China’s EBS Petroleum, has completed the country’s longest horizontal oil well in the southern part of the East Baghdad field, a significant achievement for the energy industry.

The well, EBMK-8-1H, reached a total depth of 6,320 meters, including a 3,535-meter horizontal section, making it the country’s largest horizontal well ever drilled, according to the Iraq International News Agency (IINA).

The project was carried out with the support of Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani and aligns with the government’s goals to boost production, lower operating costs, and enhance national oil resources through the use of innovative drilling techniques.

Senior officials from the Iraqi Oil Ministry and representatives of EBS Petroleum attended the well’s completion ceremony, which highlighted the growing role of foreign collaborations in Iraq’s energy sector.

EBS Petroleum refers to the Iraqi oilfield operations of China ZhenHua Oil, which focuses on developing Iraq’s East Baghdad oil field by employing advanced drilling techniques such as horizontal drilling to increase production and contribute to China-Iraq energy cooperation.

ZhenHua Oil is the operator, working with Iraqi partners to oversee field development, such as drilling additional wells and creating infrastructure, with the goal of improving Iraq’s oil industry.

MOC’s Head of Operations for the Southern Region, Firas Fawzi, said in May that oil production from the East Baghdad field is expected to reach 120,000 barrels per day by June 2026, suggesting that the field’s gas production is anticipated to begin in September 2026, with an expected output ranging between 25 and 50 million cubic feet per day.

An enormous discovery in early 2025 raised the reserves of the East Baghdad field, one of Iraq’s most significant oil resources, to 15 billion barrels.

This discovery enhances Iraq’s position as one of the world’s top oil producers and creates new avenues for output expansion and revenue generation.

"Axis of resistance" still hasn't managed to move their resources to their own central bank or atleast to China.

You cannot build anything without sovereignty, independence and diversification.
