Islamabad Talks - News & Discussions

In Oman, there was only the 'Total Surrender Boat'. It is going to be very different in the Islamabad Talks. Please read the terms offered to Iran in the Oman Negotiations and what will be agreed upon in the Islamabad Talks Round Two.
If one listened between the lines of Trump's rants, he is almost resigned to the fact that Tehran can and will charge a "security and administration fee" for Hormuz transit. Moreover, Iran can charge different countries in tiers, depending on the costs incurred in terms of "security risk".

It is entirely justifiable and even something Tehran should push for, that certain nations will have preferential treatment with transit fees. In fact, it is a leaf straight out of Trump's book of tariff diplomacy.

This concept never even existed before the war. So, if Tehran emerges with its regime intact and able to charge fees in Hormuz, it has won massively. Naturally there are other things they want from the 10 point plan. It would be interesting to see which of those terms Iran might be willing to sacrifice to reach some sort of compromise.

If the Arabs can use mercenaries to do their dirty work for them.... kudos to them, why hold it against them.
Not holding any of that against them. I just support bombing them because they're on the same side as Israel right now. What more reason do I need as a Pakistani.

It is also very entertaining to watch. These Arabs bet their oil fields on the concept that the US would protect them. Didn't work out.

Signing Abraham Accords didn't help either

It's time for you get lesson 101 on such deals / treaties ! You won't get all the info about it , certain parts will be kept secret for some time....

I agree with that. Like in the Cuban Missile Crisis and in the Nixon-China détente, details remain hidden to avoid embarrassments or spooking allies. However, in this case, it makes no sense for Iran to have suffered so much to concede the missiles program which they were not willing to concede during the Oman negotiations.

Why would they concede the missiles program now? Doing so, anytime, would lead to them becoming sitting ducks for Israel. Absolutely ain't happening, especially after not how much they have been bombed, destroyed and killed. Instead, Iran may bring the region down, the global economy down before it would compromise on Israel's key demand of the missile program.

PS. It doesn't look like the Islamabad Talks Round 2 happening. Pakistani media just hyped it, as of now.

1. Iran, or for that matter, any of the regional countries could have taken control of the strait of Hormuz with threats or through deployment of mines/naval forces. The question is, can Iran continue to hold on to it if the US, Gulf and other countries decide to free it militarily?
2. They may have done some damage to the US bases in the region but destroying much of the bases is a big exaggeration.
3. Yes, which is why the world at large would not hesitate for too long if Iran continues to inflict pain on the world, especially those countries which have nothing to do with the conflict.
4. Rather irrelevant. Still, for the sake of argument, If Trump can sell a win to his voters, he will win big.
5. That is just nonsense by NYT. The US has stockpiles that can last years, let alone months. The US has not been a military super power for cenuries by being hollow inside.
And who actually has the stomach to fight Iran conventionally for as long as it takes to inflict a decisive defeat upon them??

Did USA? Did Israel?

The economic pain of war on Iran is too severe. The best the "world at large" as you describe it could manage is some slow grinding economic war, which is exactly what Trump is attempting now and is seemingly already tired of it.

Add to that the reality that whoever comes after Trump will not be escalating this war any further and you tell me - who can ride out the next five years of this status quo better?

And who actually has the stomach to fight Iran conventionally for ad long as it takes to inflict a decisive defeat upon them??
Did USA? Did Israel?

It is a rediculous assumption that with or without any UNSC Resolution countries would be willing to shed their sons' blood to join a war against Iran. Even key NATO countries have distanced themselves from this conflict.

White House confirms Kushner and Witkoff will go to Islamabad for further Iran talks

BBC

US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will head to Islamabad in Pakistan for further talks with Iran, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt tells Fox News just now.

The two will leave Saturday morning to continue the negotiations, she says.

Both NY Times and Reuters reporting this. So there are going to be Islamabad Talks Round 2, after all!
Reuters: "
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News that U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would be off to Pakistan on Saturday for what she called "direct talks" mediated by Pakistan.
"The Iranians reached out, as the president called on them to do, and asked for this in-person conversation," she said.
She said they would report back to the president and vice president and the rest of the administration team.
"Everyone will be on standby to fly to Pakistan if necessary," she said."

Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, two of the United States’ lead negotiators in peace talks with Iran, will travel to Pakistan on Saturday to talk with Iranian officials, an administration spokeswoman said. Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, also announced a visit to Islamabad, and Iranian officials said he planned to meet with the two U.S. representatives.

“Steve and Jared will be heading to Pakistan tomorrow to hear the Iranians out,” Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary said Friday. “We hope progress will be made, and we hope that positive developments will come from this meeting, and we will see, and the president, the vice president, the secretary of state will be waiting here in the United States for updates.”

The Iranian foreign minister plans to present a new written response to a U.S. proposal for a peace deal, according to two senior Iranian officials familiar with the trip. They asked that their names not be published because they were not authorized to discuss sensitive diplomatic matters.

Vance will not attend new talks, but is on 'standby', White House says

BBC

US Vice President JD Vance will not attend the fresh round of talks with Iran, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt tells Fox News.

Though Vance will not join Kushner and Witkoff at this point, he will be waiting alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other officials in case his presence is "necessary", Leavitt adds.

"The Vice President remains deeply involved in this entire process, and he'll be standing by here," she says. "Everyone will be on standby to fly to Pakistan if necessary."

US has made progress with Iran in recent days, Leavitt says

Karoline Leavitt says the US has "certainly seen progress" from the "Iranian side" in the last couple of days.

The White House press secretary says the Iranians "want to talk" in person.

Leavitt goes on to say the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon is another "win for the world" and she hopes there will be a day when the US can welcome the leaders of both countries.

Leavitt says President Trump was flexible in granting an extension on the ceasefire with Iran.

He has decided to send Witkoff and Kushner to Islamabad "to hear the Iranians out", she says.

She adds that the Iranians want to talk in person, and that the president is "always willing to give diplomacy a chance".

She says the US hopes positive developments will come from meeting - "we'll see".

She says the vice president is on standby and the US is willing to dispatch him to Pakistan if it is deemed a good use of his time.

They are saying now that aragchi will not meet American delegation and will be in Muscat when Americans will land. All these reports are coming from Iran. Stop insulting Pakistan Infront of the whole world. We aren't dying to save Iran. Let them fight each other and when Iran comes begging, don't listen. Whatever is happening right now is very insulting for Pakistan. Ask Americans to stop pushing us in this uncomfortable situation.

How unfortunate Pakistan has to border these basket case countries. Iran, Afghanistan, India are all the same. Each one of these countries has their own delusions of grandeur. Why couldn't they have normal countries like China as neighbors.
