On May 20, the U.S. National Public Radio (NPR) cited an internal U.S. State Department cable reporting that the U.S. government is pressuring the Palestinian side to withdraw the application of Palestinian UN representative Mansour for the position of Vice President of the UN General Assembly, or else the visas of the Palestinian UN delegation will be revoked.
According to the report, the cable stated that Mansour "has repeatedly accused Israel of committing genocide," and his candidacy "has heightened tensions," undermining U.S. President Trump's "Gaza peace plan." At the same time, the cable mentioned that the U.S. State Department lifted visa sanctions on members of the Palestinian UN delegation in September 2025, and added, "It would be regrettable if any feasible plan had to be reconsidered."
Mansour has consistently called for peace at the UN meetings. On May 28, 2025, at the UN Security Council, when talking about the tragic experiences of children in Gaza, Mansour once angrily pounded the desk in grief, choked up and cried, finding it difficult to continue speaking.
