Israel signs €3 billion arms export deal with Greece, defence ministry says

Waste of taxpayer money.

Arming Greece against Turkey is like arming Fenerbahce against Real Madrid.

If the Americans told Turkey "don't arm against us,it's useless, just give us what we want",
would you conform? ;)

The problem with a lot of Turks and unfortunately from what I see here some Pakistanis as well,is they mock the whole "source code" thing without having understood the whole story. To a certain degree it's understandable, because many Greeks didn't understand either. And all that because of our MoD's slip of the tongue and of some media's confusion.

@Ali_Baba tagging you here because I doubt you checked the post I told you about. And because people like Oublious and hyperman rush to downplay everything, saying stuff like "haha greek will only push the button" or "israelis will shut it off" or "they will know everything that happens",such childish claims should be addressed.

1.The mix-up was about source codes. There will be a greek C2. The C2 will be ours.
No country gives source codes for such significant equipment just like that.

Turkey didn't get source codes for the S-400s and is not getting all of it for the Eurofighters.

To think that we'd be getting free source codes for a 3 billion deal is ridiculous. Both for Greeks who thought we'd be getting them and for Turks who are now saying "haha they didn't give them the codes". What we'll be having is our own C2.

2.Out of the €3 billion total cost, €700 million will go directly to 19 Greek defense companies. This is because the government insisted on greek companies having at least 25% participation.

3.Some of you say "why spend money on that,Turkey so strong" or "why not buy something else".

Because no matter if warfare has been changing, countries still need Air Defence,at least on a basic level,as conflicts in Nagorno-Karabakh,Ukraine,Pakistan-India,Iran and the Gulf have shown. You still need Air Defence. And I'm sure Pakistanis and Indians here will attest to that.

And Greece has a relatively big number of systems and batteries to replace.

4.Some,for example hyperman, criticized the purchase and said we should have gone for the French. As a France fanboy myself I wanted that option. But there were some obstacles, mainly financial ones. You see,the Israeli package was apparently 3 times cheaper. The French as you know, have great quality, but are expensive. Another problem was the alleged talks between Italy-Turkey-France about the SAMP/T.

So,I hope I answered some of your questions. I'm sure some of you will keep bashing and trying to downplay the whole purchase, but when I see Turkish media constantly complain about every major purchase we make,it means we're good.
