And what was the common factor in them: Saudi Arabia let Iraq lose against Iran in the 80s, Saudi Arabia supported the invasion of Iraq in 2003, Saudi Arabia supported the toppling of Asad govt in Syria.
Now that I think of it: Saudi Arabia is a colonial tool of America especially after King Faisal's death!!
Actually Saudi is supporting Iraq during Iraq and Iran war ( CMIIW), this is in my opinion that make Saudi and Iran until now dont have good relation.

I think both countries should let go their pass. Just like Indonesia under Soekarno who tried to even invade Malaysia and Singapore, now we have good relation to both countries

This is also why both Malaysia and Singapore has maintained their defence pact with Commonwealth nation ( British, Aussie, NZ) until now. They are still worried, but it doesnt make them not having good term with us under new leaders

'Even the cockroaches won't survive': Expert discusses Hezbollah's new EMP weapon

Rotem Mey-Tal, CEO of Asgard Systems, a company developing military technology for the defense industry discusses Hezbollah's new tactic and supply of electromagnetic ordnance.

The Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida reported that Iran has supplied Hezbollah and other Iranian proxy forces with electromagnetic ordnance, which can disable communication systems and shut down radars. Rotem Mey-Tal, CEO of Asgard Systems, a company developing military technology for the defense industry and the initiator of the "30U30 in Defense" competition for 2024, discussed the issue.

First, what is electromagnetic ordnance?

"Describing electromagnetic ordnance is like talking about something no one has ever seen, but everyone understands exists and is present in reality—in our case, on the geopolitical and military chessboard of the Middle East. In essence, imagine lightning striking the building you live in, not hitting a lightning rod or antenna, but the entire building, causing all the electrical panels, water heaters, water and electrical systems, household appliances, computers, television systems, and even life-saving medical systems to stop working. It's like a power outage, but in this case, the systems can also burn out from the inside like in an electrical short."

Where is this threat aimed?

"I suspect the threat is more focused on bases, strategic facilities, desalination systems, and the Israeli power grid. However, it's impossible to say precisely, as such a weapon has never been used in history, so there are no sources or references to learn from."

Does it work like an electric wave or like conventional munitions and rockets?

"The physics are the same in any way they choose to use such capability, but I suspect the model will likely be in the form of a low-flying UAV. Much like the Iranian-Houthi attack of the upgraded Samad 3 UAV, which struck near the US Embassy in Tel Aviv last weekend, only instead of a kinetic warhead with gunpowder, the front of the UAV can be armed with an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) activation mechanism, which is triggered during the UAV's flight and emits an EMP upon contact with the target. But again, it's mostly speculation, as there is no documentation to date of the use of such a weapon or technology."

Is this an escalation? How do you think such a threat should be addressed?

"In my personal opinion, not only is this an escalation on the map of potential threats, but it should also be regarded as close to a non-conventional weapon threat. Just as no sovereign country would tolerate a non-conventional weapon threat, the same applies here. This is because, in 2024, electronic processors manage and operate all the vital systems in the State of Israel—infrastructure, medical systems, security, and military applications.

"Think of the analogy from the 1960s, which describes that in a nuclear explosion, only the cockroaches would survive. In the same vein, in an electromagnetic attack, the 'cockroaches' (a nickname for electronic components in electrical circuits) will not survive this time. It will affect all of us in our daily lives and emergency preparedness. Like in a poker game, when someone raises a bet on the table, everyone stops everything and looks him in the eye to understand his next move or whether he is bluffing. I think we need to look them in the eye."

The IDF confirmed that two Hezbollah missiles hit the Israel Air Force's Air Control Unit base near Mount Meron on Friday morning, following sirens in the area.

Alarms were activated in the Upper Galilee area and Meron on Friday morning, and Lebanese media later reported a direct hit to the base, which Hezbollah later claimed responsibility for.

Army Radio reported that anti-tank missiles hit the air control base but that the base's functional capacity and detection system continued to work.

There were no casualties, and the IDF is investigating the incident.

Earlier on Friday morning, a terrorist cell based in the Tayr Harfa area in southern Lebanon was eliminated by the IAF on Friday, the IDF stated.

The cell had reportedly been planning to fire projectiles toward Israel.

Further, Israeli artillery reportedly struck targets in the area of Chebaa in southern Lebanon.

On Thursday, the IAF struck a Hezbollah weapons storage facility in southern Lebanon, after which secondary explosions were identified, indicating the presence of large amounts of weapons in the facility.

The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that an IAF strike in Beit al-Jabal resulted in two deaths. According to the report, one of the dead is a child. The IDF claimed that they were actually Hezbollah terrorists.

Last ditch attempts to economically diversify

Like they couldn't try this 20 years ago lol
No my friend..you have little knowledge about what is going on in Saudi Arabia and the UAE at least.. they have already diversified the oil industry to petrochemicals, mining, high tech and many other fields of interests to humans..their economy is 50% based on Oil now..Gas is not going to fade as OIL might (based on speculations!)..all this make your speculations just that..speculations..Even military wise..they are buying from many other sources than the US, China, Russia, France , GB, South Korea, Brazil, South Africa..etc, all with relevant TOT and JVs.. Even the US can't sell them any weapon system without ToT today..

The Saudi monarchs find religious oriented governance (theocracy) a threat to their rule as it can challenge their legitimacey on being custodians of the holy places, and weaken their position as leaders of Arabia. Remember this religious Sunni, Shia divide didn't exist at time of the Shah, the Saudis no doubt supported the toppling of Morsi in Egypt and continue to support genocide in Gaza to remove Hamas which also have a religious oriented governance.

They will never trust Iran as long as the theocratic system is in place.

But don't you agree that diversification should have been done years ago?
The point really is Saudi are in an uncomfortable race against the replacement of fossil fuels, and it's reliant on the west to not lose.

They could have played both sides, become a player in green tech and oil wealth

China are leading solar energy, Saudi has the sun lol
