Two Jewish real estate moguls traded compliments Thursday in a softball question-and-answer session at an unusual investment conference in Miami Beach. The topic was not real estate, but the Middle East, the political playground for the two moguls and confidantes of President Donald Trump.

“There’s been more success in your diplomacy in your first 30 days of service than most diplomats achieve in a lifetime,” Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and first special adviser on the region, told Steve Witkoff, Trump’s golfing buddy and current envoy.

“You began this whole thing in the first Trump administration and you were so successful,” Witkoff responded. “I think the secret sauce is correcting miscommunication and creating good communication. And you did it so well.”

The lovefest unfolded on a conference stage, hosted by the Future Investment Initiative Institute and sponsored mainly by the Saudi Public Investment Fund. Affinity Partners, Kushner’s private equity firm, secured an estimated $2 billion investment from that fund, which is overseen by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Trump addressed the conference on Tuesday. He told the crowd he would want his legacy to be bringing peace “to the rest of the world”


Neither Witkoff nor Kushner had diplomatic experience before stepping into their roles. What they did have is Trump’s trust, and they shared his unconventional approach to international conflicts.

In 2020, Kushner was instrumental in brokering the normalization deals between Israel and several Arab countries, known as the Abraham Accords. Witkoff, meanwhile, last month helped finalize a ceasefire-hostage deal between Israel and Hamas that President Joe Biden had first proposed, and is also involved in negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

I agree with this. The problem was that Israel was better prepared and able to escalate more rapidly before Hezbollah could adapt. Hezbollah ultimately thought it could deter an all out war with Israel, but it underestimated the amount of work Israel had done since 2006 to prepare for this moment to 'blitz' Hezbollah into defeat.

The intensity of the war was frightening. The massive pagers attacks then walkie talkie attacks the next day. Combined with hundreds of airstrikes across all of Lebanon every day at a scale we never saw in 2006. These left Hezbollah reeling and unable to adapt to the new circumstances. Then the loss of Nasrallah and then Safi Al Din before he could even be announced as the new SG. Everything went wrong all at once, just as Israel planned. Around October I thought Hezbollah started to regroup and adapt to the war better, but it was clear they were not prepared for the level of losses and therefore not able to utilise their equipment or plans.

Can't fire ballistic missiles when 90% of them are destroyed already and the commanders in charge of firing them have all been assassinated. Can't launch raids into north Israel when Israel spent a year flattening all of south Lebanon and killing the entire leadership of the Radwan forces from top to bottom. Can't plan a major strike when Israel has infiltrated the communications systems and can take out the rocket launchers before they can be used.

Just a total shit show. Until these deeper issues can be resolved it would be stupid for Hezbollah to attack Israel (even the forces still in 5 points of south Lebanon).

Hizbollah is a militia but Israel is a state fully backed by Nato with latest technologies. Hizbollah cannot ever enter a war with Israel, or invade Israel, they only defend Lebanon from Israel aggression or aid their Palestinians brothers just like they did, which ended up costing them alot of power and most of senior leadership. Hizbollah always knew Israel will assassinated their leadership or bomb everything that moves but they have no choice but to target Israel due to its barbarism. What Hizbollah unexpected was the communications hijacking, pagers attacks and how Israel had alot of intelligence on Hizbollah personal locations. Certainly someone in Lebanon keeps eyes on Hizbollah.
