JF-17 - Updates, News & Discussion

The way they wrote the serial initially made it look like a used PAF bird but 24-502 is definitely not a PAF serial number.. doesn't make sense.

I'm also disappointed that Azeris didn't paint it on their blue camo. Are we forcing every export customer to adopt the boring ghost scheme?

Once there are enough JF-17 operators there needs to be a Thunder meet....

And in other News: HAL is (still) trying to sell their baiwa (TEJAs) to IAF.
There's a Punjabi Idiom for this;

"یار، مُردے نوں ہور کِنّیاں چپیڑا مارنیاں نیں؟"
How many more slaps are you going to give a dead man?

How much in house work can we do for the RD-93 since Russians won't be liking us taking their market... And will block 4 have a new engine or not ?

That's exactly my point, why not 4 for Azeri jets, why 5?

Isn't it obvious from all official press coming out? They are working on a few iterations and would like to reserve a number incase a next block level upgrade comes through.
Why do you guys assume the serials are chosen by PAF? Why wouldn't the Azeris choose their own serial numbers....And maybe they did...?

The paint scheme following PAF's scheme is interesting.
(But serial numbers are a separate thing though.)

'4' could be reserved for a different customer. Or maybe it's for Block-4.
Why would PAF need to choose/reserve serial numbers for other airforces?

As manufacturer, I'm sure PAC production serials are different than what's seen on the aircraft tails anyway.

no
5 is the designation for azeri jeffs
24-502
24 =made in 2024
5 = azeri jeffs
02= second airframe

5 is likely a squadron number or type. Azeri airforce has 5 to 6 squadrons.

Also, I found below photo of the mig-29 of azeri airforce

The aircraft serial number is 03 409 written in description >> 4 likely represents squadron number Or type and 09 airframe number.

Brother, Pakistan's Block-3s start with 3XX and Azerbaijan's Block-3s start with 5XX.

The paint job is the choice of the customer. This is the colour scheme Myanmar chose.

That is a good question, and the answer is because the Nigerian and Burmese ones followed completely different serials. (The nigerians shared factory serials with PAF, burmese didnt even share those). Only the Azeris have followed PAF convention, this could be due to many reasons, most likely one that makes sense to be is their close relationship with Pakistan, and hence arrangement to first operate with and with-in PAF. Such a scheme would help in a situation like this.

Conspiracy theory time.

Pakistan Air Force will be jointly operating an airbase in Azerbaijan with a large fleet of JF-17 Thunders.
