No of course not, twin seaters are based on block 2. I'm merely pointing out they've missed serials beginning with 4, for whatever reason that may be. I guess the B model is distinct from the single seater, so you could argue it shouldn't continue to numbering series from the single seater and deserves a separate number of it's own.

5 is likely a squadron number or type. Azeri airforce has 5 to 6 squadrons.

Also, I found below photo of the mig-29 of azeri airforce

The aircraft serial number is 03 409 written in description >> 4 likely represents squadron number Or type and 09 airframe number.

Most probably the likely reason.

serials are chosen by PAF?

they are using the same livery as PAF and the serials are very similar to PAF
5 has to sqdrn number or Azerbaijani jf17 designation

no one has "missed" serials beginning with 4 for God's sake. This maybe news to you but Azerbaijan AF is not PAF! it's a different country's air force!!

PAF can still use 4xx and 5xx serials if the block 4 and 5 ever happen as per the original plan of having 5 blocks. Of course plans change and we may or maynot get a block 4 now but that's a different topic.

By the way, that original 5 blocks plan is the reason 2 seaters are serialed 6xx because 4xx and 5xx were reserved for block 4 and block 5 (and still are!). But that is for PAF service not for other air forces who can choose their own serial numbers.

According to the Retired Air Marshal Khalid Chishti, Pakistan was/is actively negotiating with 6 separate countries for the sale of the JF-17 Thunder since last year. He said, he had been made aware of this by the Pakistan Air Force.

He clarified that all customer countries had requested Pakistan not to make anything public until the deals were finalised because they feared pressure from influential countries to cancel the deals.

Deliveries to more countries are expected to begin from 2027 onwards.

So far, Pakistan has very successfully managed to conceal the production of JF-17 Thunders for at least two-years from prying eyes.

Thankfully, diplomatically Pakistan has ensured the Americans are not constantly breathing down our necks, and the US has also stopped negative propaganda against Pakistan.

In the bigger picture, there are a lot of countries in the world that are operating Soviet/Russian aircraft.

With sanctions on Russia, JF-17 Thunder has become an attractive option for Mig-21 and Mig-29 replacements around the world without breaking the bank.

Brother, Pakistan's Block-3s start with 3XX and Azerbaijan's Block-3s start with 5XX.

The paint job is the choice of the customer. This is the colour scheme Myanmar chose.

Yes I got the serial thing but I am firm believer that PAC is shilling for export customers to keep the paint scheme. Like that F-16 denim jean livery ever NATO ally was putting on.

Well, the less speculation about potential customers the better, too many wild claims until anything becomes official.

I think PAF has learnt from past mistakes, where too much early chest beating resulted in outside interest

Best stay quite until deal is signed and deliveries are due
