KAAN is not a practical option for Pakistan due to American engine, even if Turkey miraculously produced a jet engine within the proposed timeline, maturity of that indigenous Turkish engine, it's maintenance and it's supply line would remain under the shadows of doubt.

Could Pak try and aquire WS15s from China, we are talking many years in the future here.

If it would be offered for export market and Pakistan would have an project where it could use the same then may be yes.

Hi,

Maybe we should ask 'Kamran Faridi'.
This needs a Bollywood flick -

But - I would look to another longtime Karachi resident who inspires Netflix series. There is a reason the estab always had a soft spot for Karachi businessmen and the Dubai connection.

hum ne un ko bhi chhup chhup ke aate dekhaa in galiyon mein

No solid confirmation of PL-15 yet. Nothing on an upgrade for the RD-93 either.

Wouldn't PAF be better off closing the JF-17 chapter here and saving up for the J-31, which will definitely have the first shoot against any Indian 4th gen fighter.

The chapter could be closed per se - but much like any good textbooks ,chapters are updated, others may be added as editions come out or until knowledge of that book is finally not relevant in its form.

We could keep the line open for attrition replacement, potential exports and an MLU down the line.

But the thing is, no one on this forum will bet his life on a Thunder getting the first shot against a Rafale. With a J-31, it's in our favour.

Yes, seems like in a year or two I imagine we will move in from JF-17. It however had done precisley what was needed from it. We got 180-200 off mid level and cheap (relatively) planes that were immune to US sanctions and we did it all in approx 20 year timeline. Few foreign orders too.

This is fantastic. Soon time to move on to next gen

I think PAF should plan to upgrade all blk2 and blk 1 and bravo to blk 3 standards. all upgrade should be done locally. add may ab 1-2 blk 3 new squadrons and then move on to JF33 Lightening [ may imaginative name of PAF's locally produced and modified J31. From that point on use JF33 Lightening to replace Aging airframe and JF17 blk 3 into the future. where as KAAN blk 3 [5.5 gen fighter] assuming to be ready by 2032/33 will be produced locally to replace F16's as well add few extra squadrons to form high-low mix of 5th gen plus fighters. While J10C should be planned to be replaced by 6th gen fighter post 2040.

From various posts it's seems that's the idea, all block 2 upgraded to block 3s and block 1 allegedly retired when the time comes, this doesn't mean their won't be more JF17 new builds especially with a possible further upgrade to the platform, but finance will probably go into purchase more J10s and preparing for the J31
