JF-17 - Updates, News & Discussion

Turkish Uni's also do original research, I wonder how much of that fed into bringing about a conducive environment for these companies to germinate in. We on the other hand have 'do number' publications, chacha mamu style citations and review process. @JamD might know better.
IIRC... NESCOM and NDC used to commission bottom-up research work at NUST. So, if anything, NASTP would do the same. It helps mitigate the risk of meaningless stuff while also pushing the needle forward.

The alternative approach is to cast a wide net at first, and then gradually narrow subsequent funding tranches to the ones who did actual work.

Root cause is the misconceived, or rather never achieved, understanding of academic institutions, environment, and pursuit.

Configured for counter-insurgency missions, the JF-17A is armed with four Al-Battar 500 lb laser-guided bombs and features an ASELPOD targeting pod mounted on its centerline station. The ASELPOD is regarded as more capable than the Sniper ATP, which is currently integrated with PAF F-16s.

Yep. Their giants (e.g., Turkish Aerospace, Aselsan, Havelsan, Roketsan etc) are all state-owned too. They've figured out a way to manage military leadership, engineering, and business stakeholders relatively efficiently, allowing each to develop well.

Interestingly, NASTP currently is an amalgamation of the work TAI, Aselsan, and Havelsan do separately (e.g., aircraft, radars, avionics, EW/ECM, etc). I think as the work and infrastructure at NASTP grows, they might split it more into more domain-focused entities. The groundwork for it is there, in a way, through setting up different campuses nationwide, for example.
As controversial as it may sound. I would hope for another extension for the ACM just to see the NASTP fully develop, because there is this narcissistic tendency in our people to completely cancel previous work and redo things in one’s own image.

This my friend is called 'Doctrine of necessity'. Has done more harm to Pakistan than benefit.

More harm has been done with perpetual circlular policy directions we have been taking.

And can be done away with only institutional policy making instead of a one man approach.

Tell me, is that going to happen? Or the next guy will roll it back and come up with his own thing beginning right from scratch.

I would rather have this initiative take root and get refined over and not killed.

When exactly will we see the JF17 PFX or JF17-Alpha model?
How many Block III are coming prior to Alpha Models ?

There has not been any news regarding new Squadrons Block III for some time
