Well, the modern hatred between Germans and Russians was primarily manufactured by the US.

Even if US wanted to get involved, China was bent to get it back. China had no choice, the leases was up, China no way was going to extend or sign new lease. US wouldn't go to war with China, and China would fight the US on Chinese soil for that.
