this isnt as bad as you think. CAMM was originally retrofit to old british vessels. It was designed to be easy to do. You mention datalinks as an example, CAMM uses standalone datalink arrays for example. Its not going to be an super deep upgrade. In theory you'd just take the suite from yarmook or babur and adapt it to the f22p.

I know PN has been contemplating F22P MLU for a time now but a upgrade to the Type 054As is far away i would say

Not really the same category, FM-90s short range has more to do with the fact that it is basically a 1960s system rather then it was designed as a point defense system.

There were long range SAM systems too in that era. fm90 on Zulfiqars is by all intended purposes a point defense system. / protecting the ship.

FM90s / hq7s are replaced in very earlier Type-54s with HHq10s.

PLAN replaced the FM90s on their Type 053H3s (what Zulfuar is based on) with HHQ-10s as well during the MLU

I actually think they might go for a OPV 2600 based class of AAW ships, the OPV hulls are very cheap which means there's way more money left for Sensors and Weapons, for example a OPV 2600 with essentially the Same loadout as a babur costs like half the pricetag (170-200mil range vs 375 mil a babur although part of that might be because of the TOT agreement)

So you could have a ship with 32 VLS cells for potentially less then $250mil.

As for JCF it ultimately depends on the PNs vision for the project which currently seems to the more Safe and cost friendly route.

Yep, that can be an option as it means a lower build cost (OPVs built on commercial specs). However, since NRDI has adopted the AS3400 design as its own IP, it has much more flexibility in how to leverage it.

Basically, NRDI/PDW can open bids for steel, propulsion, and other base inputs to the market, invite suppliers from anywhere, and secure the best possible pricing.

When working with shipbuilding OEMs only (e.g., Damen, ASFAT, etc), the challenge or potential drawback was taking on their choice of suppliers, which could stack costs.

NRDI can now cut them out and work directly with the suppliers (e.g., MTU, GE, Hanwha, Hyundai, etc). So, the cost of an NRDI-forked AS3600 might not be much higher than picking up the OPV 2600 from Damen. Of course, I am only talking about the hull, superstructure, propulsion, etc. The cost of the sensors and other electronics, munitions, etc, will stack and raise prices up regardless of whether you pick up OPV 2600 or AS3600. The key is how much lower you can bring the hull (OPV 2600 vs AS3600) so that you have more vertical budget room to play with.

Well it's not a large frigate either by modern standards, those typically are 5000+ tons now, its more of a light frigate with its size and loadout.

I don't expect JCF to be inducted before 2030. 4 long years. In the meantime, PN manufacturing is focused on completing Babur, equipping all other ships, inducting Hangor, operationalizing various missiles, 20 gunboats, inducting Sea Sultan, and adding helicopters. expanding marines, inducting Multi Layer Air Defense. Finalize MG110 replacement. These are the few key items, but the list is full, glass is brimming.

and someone was bringing 8 Jinnah class frigates in PN within next few years lol.

Construction of first batch (2 ships) started already at KSE&W & will be launched in 2026 then the construction of next batch will take over hence the suggested time 2032 to launched all (8) Jinnah are pretty ok.

The forum is filled with unreaslitic goals & timelines all over. People who have no idea how long it takes especially in Pakistan. Past history should be a guide before predicting any timelines.

I think, if we are lucky the first and only JCF can join PN around 2033. There's yet no official plan released to build more than one JCF. Focus will remain on arming existing fleet and more focus & priority on submarines both Hangors and maybe SWATs too.

Dude they are building a frigate based on an already existing design not the Star destroyer, when the JCF first started the development they gave a 25-26 timeline for the completion of design work so project is on track for its slated timeline.

Does destroyer highlight that it will have a different role from frigates? We have frigate sized “heavy” corvette baburs after all

Its pretty large considering most frigates for lesser navies are still 3-4k tons and those in higher band arent that common. Its really stupid to just take designation at face value without understanding role these ships occupy in PN. Which for jcf is still up in the air

Nope, we are seeing even medium sized navies going for 4-5000 ton frigates, with a mixed loadout of MR and LR Sams, We could see JCF evolve to carry similar loadouts, as it stands currently they are just Baburs+.

I can't agree more, as of today, what we know, as JCF designed and circulated it is babur++
