N44671 was the registration of the third Tigershark, which today is the sole survivor. This aircraft was particularly engaged in weapons trials.

The JF-17 Thunder made its first appearance at Anatolian Eagle, a NATO exercise, with a contingent at Konya from Samungli-based 28 Squadron ‘Phoenix’, the latest unit to equip with the type which stood-up on February 28, 2018. Note this Block 1 aircraft is fitted with three large fuel tanks, normally only used for ferry flights.

This line up illustrates the international flavour of Anatolian Eagle; Royal Jordanian Air Force F-16s, Aeronautica Militare AMX and Pakistan Air Force JF-17s. All three air forces have been regular attendees since the first edition in 2001.

Not sure why I'm not getting any notifications from this thread?

Anyway, speaking of the F-20 Tigershark; prior to the EAF acquiring its F-16s in 1982, Sadat inquired about the F-5 and liked it and wanted to order a large batch. The US then started pitching the F-5 and the F-20 Tigershark to Egypt and made a huge effort to make deal including performing several spectacular demonstrations in Cairo but wanted to keep the numbers lower than what Sadat had requested. The F-5s were painted in the same camo scheme as the Iranian ones and the F-20 was in its usual smokey grey/blue.

Eventually Sadat got frustrated at the US' persistence to keep the numbers down and canceled the inquiry only to go to France and begin purchasing Mirage 2000s with the 1st batch of 20 begin arriving in Egypt by the end of 1982. The US then capitulated and began delivering F-16s and sadly no more Mirage 2000s were ordered. As of today, there has been 240 F-16s delivered (176 currently in active inventory) and 15 Mirage 2000s still operating including 2 of the 4 2-seaters delivered as part of the 20.

Still going strong. Just a nice pic.

Just a pair of nice pics of arguably the two most iconic combat aircraft in the history of the world, second to the venerable MiG-21. I'd say the 1st might have an ever so slight edge on the 2nd.

Good to see Pakistan still flying its Mirages, and they're not even the Vs or later 2000 models, but the original IIIs. A testament to the crews & exceptional maintenance/overhauls that they must go through. The older the jets & frames, the more maintenance it takes to keep them in tiptop fly-worthy combat condition.

I was just talking to another fella who shares the same enthusiasm about these classic jets who also lived in parts of central & south Africa growing up like myself and we were reminiscing about our experiences. He mentioned how he would see South African Mirages every week like clockwork fly over his house and the roar and shaking they would cause. I mentioned one particular time when I was at Kinshasa International Airport with my parents waiting to get on a flight and as I'm looking out the giant glass window onto the tarmac watching all the parked airlines and bustling of shuttles, suddenly a Zairian Mirage 5DM goes trickling by right in front of us looking down on it with its canopy open, pilot looking at us and smiling and waving as the jet just trotted by until it reached out of sight turning towards its hangar. It was one of only 3 or 4 Mirages of the Zaire Air Force at the time and was brand, spanking new sporting a killer jungle camo. This was way back in 1975! Never forget that.

This is exactly what it looked like. Mirage 5DM of the Zaire Air Force. Talk about a rare sighting & experience.

Pakistan has a complete MRF Mirage Rebuild Factory and all the mirages have gone through atleast 4 overhauls. Sadly only 2 squadrons remain which are called ROSE Retrofit of Strike Element for tactical strikes.
