F-106 Delta Dart



This aircraft was assigned to the 5th Interceptor Squadron at Minot AFB in North Dakota. At the time, the 5th also provided support along the US southern border based out of Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson. The above photo looks like that is where it was taken.

I happened to be near the flightline one day when two of them roared down the runway in full afterburner. Learned later there was an unidentified aircraft that came across the border and attempts to ID it had failed. Hence the scramble.

Turned out to be the Governor of AZ on his way back from some trade meeting with his counterpart in Sonora, Mexico. LOL.
