Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Terrorism Watch

Another IBO was conducted in the Lakki Marwat district. In the ensuing fire exchange, “two khawarij were effectively neutralised by the security forces,” the ISPR said.

It added that during the third encounter in the Tank district, security forces killed one more terrorist.

“Sanitisation operations are being conducted to eliminate any other Indian sponsored kharji found in the area,” ISPR the statement said, adding: “Relentless counter-terrorism campaign under the vision of ‘Azm-i-Istehkam’ (as approved by the Federal Apex Committee on National Action Plan) by security forces and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan will continue at full pace to wipe out menace of foreign sponsored and supported terrorism from the country.”

The ISPR’s latest statement detailing the three operations in KP comes two days after it reported the killing of 38 terrorists in four IBOs conducted over a span of three days.

Of these operations, one was conducted in the Kulachi area of Dera Ismail Khan district, during which ten terrorists, including kharji ringleader Alam Mehsud, were killed.

Another operation was carried out Datta Khel in the North Waziristan district, where troops killed five more terrorists.

The remaining two IBOs took place between in Bajaur and Bannu districts, during which 11 and 12 terrorists were killed, respectively.

Last week, the ISPR said at least 24 terrorists were killed by security forces in three separate engagements in KP and Balochistan.

Pakistan has been witnessing a surge in terror activities, particularly in KP and Balochistan. The spike in incidents follow the TTP ending a ceasefire with the government in November 2022 and vowing to attack security forces, police, and personnel of law enforcement agencies.

Last month, Islamabad-based think tank Centre for Research and Security Studies said that violence had surged in the country over the past three months due to a spike in militant attacks and intensified counter-terrorism operations.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were carried out on November 18 and 19 in Mohmand, Lakki Marwat, Tank and Kurram districts following reports of terrorist presence in the region.

In Mohmand, troops launched an intelligence-based operation and came under fire while approaching a suspected hideout. Security personnel returned fire and killed four terrorists during an intense exchange, the statement said.

Multiple peace committee members were killed when terrorists opened fire on their office in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district on Friday, police said.

According to officials, as quoted by local media, armed militants ambushed the committee members, triggering an exchange of fire in which several people were killed and one injured. The bodies and the injured have been shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) for medico-legal formalities and treatment, respectively.

The deadly assault comes just a day after security forces wiped out 30 Indian-proxy Fitna al-Khawarij militants in different intelligence-based operations across KP, as part of the ongoing nationwide operation against terrorism.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the Fitna al-Khawarij’s attack on the peace committee office in Bannu.

In a statement, PM Shehbaz expressed profound grief and sorrow over the tragic loss of precious lives in the incident.

The prime minister offered prayers for the elevation of the ranks of those martyred and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the PM Office said.

He directed the authorities concerned to promptly identify those responsible for the attack and ensure they are brought to justice. He emphasised that such cowardly acts, aimed at sabotaging peace efforts, expose the nefarious designs of Fitna al-Khawarij to spread unrest in Pakistan.

Shehbaz reaffirmed that these cowardly actions can never weaken the resolve of the Pakistani people, who stand united in their determination to crush anti-state elements.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also condemned the incident, while expressing sorrow and grief over the loss of lives. He conveyed heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the families of those who were killed.

“This cowardly act of terrorism is a malicious attempt to undermine peace and stability,” Naqvi said. Such cowardly actions by Fitna al-Khawarij cannot shake the high morale of the people, he added.

“The nation and the state stand united against the enemies of peace,” Naqvi affirmed.

7 killed in attack on peace committee office in Bannu

News Desk | Tahir Khan | Ghulam Mursalin Marwat
November 21, 2025

Seven people were killed when a peace committee office was attacked in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, police said on Friday.

Police officials told Dawn that one among those killed was a ‘good Talib’ — a term used to refer to a former militant who has surrendered to the state — and the rest were his relatives.

In their complaint to the police, the victims’ family has maintained that the attack was a result of a family feud. However, police say the family has taken the stance to avoid another potential attack carried out in retaliation.

The first information report (FIR) of the incident was registered at Havaid police station under Sections 302 (punishment for intentional murder), 324 (attempt of intentional murder), 149 (every member of an unlawful assembly guilty of an offence committed in prosecution of common objective) and 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The FIR said that the suspects barged into the victims’ baithak (guesthouse), opened fire on them and fled. Three suspects were nominated in the FIR, which said they were accompanied by other armed men and led by a terrorist commander.

According to the complainant, named Abdullah, there was enmity between his family and the suspects over the matter of a murder.

Peace committees, or village defence committees, were formed to assist law enforcement agencies in defending KP areas against terror attacks. These also include former militants, often referred to as ‘good Taliban’.

Peace committee officials in KP have been targeted by terrorists in the past as well.

Terrorist plot to blow up bridge in Bannu foiled

News Desk
November 22, 2025

A terrorist plot to blow up a bridge in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district was foiled on Saturday.

According to an official statement from KP police, terrorists attempted to blow up Dawa bridge in Bannu’s Basia Khel area using an improvised explosive device (IED). It said that the plot was thwarted due to timely action by the Bannu police bomb disposal squad.

It said that the terrorists had attached the IED, a bucket full of 8-10 kilogrammes of explosive material, to the central pillar of the bridge.

“The local people praised the timely action taken by Bannu police,” the statement said.

It also quoted Bannu Regional Police Officer Sajjad Khan as saying that it was necessary to “eliminate elements inconveniencing the public by destroying infrastructure”. He asserted that such elements do not deserve any mercy.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terror activities, particularly in KP and Balochistan. The spike in incidents followed the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ending a ceasefire with the government in November 2022 and vowing to attack security forces, police, and personnel of law enforcement agencies.

Yesterday, seven people were killed when a peace committee office was attacked in Bannu, according to police. Police officials had told Dawn that one among those killed was a ‘good Taliban’ — a term used to refer to a former militant who has surrendered to the state — and the rest were his relatives.

Earlier this week, a bid to blow up another bridge in Bannu had failed when an IED detonated prematurely while it was being installed.

Security forces kill 8 terrorists in Bannu IBO: ISPR

News Desk
November 22, 2025

Security forces killed eight terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, said a statement by the military’s media wing on Saturday.

The IBO was conducted on November 21, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on the reported presence of khawarij belonging to Indian-proxy Fitna-al-Khawarij.

Fitna-al-Khawarij is a term the state uses for terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the “Indian-sponsored *khawarij”*, as per ISPR, “who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against the security forces, LEAs and target-killing of innocent civilians.”

“The operation underscores the strengthened collaborative efforts between [LEAs] and security forces, who have significantly intensified intelligence-driven operations in the region,” said ISPR.

“These meticulously coordinated and synchronised security measures are designed to constrict the operational mobility of khawarij elements, systematically dismantle their facilitation networks, and curtail their capacity to reorganise,” the statement stressed, adding that operations are producing “substantial and measurable success” with continuous efforts to achieve more peace and stability.

“Sanitisation operation is being conducted to eliminate any other Indian-sponsored khawariji found in the area, as the relentless counter-terrorism campaign under vision Azm-i-Istehkam (as approved by the Federal Apex Committee on National Action Plan) by security forces and [LEAs] of Pakistan will continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country,” ISPR added.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terror activities, particularly in KP and Balochistan. The spike in incidents followed the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan ending a ceasefire with the government in November 2022 and vowing to attack security forces, police, and personnel of LEAs.
