Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today (2 June) said killings of individuals, who are involved in crime or illegal intrusion, by any border force within its own territory cannot be labelled as "border killing."

"If any foreign force kills someone by entering our border or at the zero line, then it can be called border killing. But if someone is involved in any sort of crimes within our borders and their borders or if someone commits illegal trespassing, then they (border forces) will address the issue as per their own local laws. In such cases, it should not be called border killing," he said.

The home minister made the remarks while replying to a question from reporters at the Secretariat.

He said all border-related issues and possible solutions will be discussed at the Director General-level meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF), beginning in New Delhi on 8 June.

Salahuddin described the meeting as a routine annual exercise held alternately in both countries.

Responding to another question about reports that large numbers of people are being gathered at the border in West Bengal after being labelled Bangladeshis, he said the members of BGB have been kept on alert.

"We are against any form of illegal push-in or push-back. However, if any Bangladeshi citizen has gone to that country for any reason and their identity is verified through national identity card, and if the central government sends a verified list to our Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then repatriation will be carried out following legal procedures," the home minister said.

No such verified list has been received so far, he said, adding that if any such cases existed earlier, they will also be addressed legally.

Then why get upset when India does and follows the same?

The "Manchurian (Shillong) Candidate" activated.

Nothing new to see here.

Tareq Zia got to get rid of this spineless Indian agent.

Nope he will not do it. BNP government need awami backing to survive.
.
Don't you see BNP is releasing its domesticated awami leaders like Ivy to do their bidding and counter Jamat-NCP. BNP is in a bad shape. They have manpower but they don't have a command structure and good leadership.
.
BNP hiked fuel and electricity prices breaking their promise and pissing off general public. They had to do this without even concluding a new deal with IMF! That means BNP is fuked.
.
We need D. Yunus in helm...

Honestly, I don't think Dr Yunus is the right person either. He has too many strings attached and doesn't have majority support. He was the right choice for transition. But for long term, we need a charismatic leader who can unite the country and work towards progress.

We need someone really independent who will only work for Bangladesh without bowing down to any pressure. Unfortunately I don't see any fit candidate at this time.

Hasnat may be an option in 10-15 years, but not now. He needs political maturity.

We will continue this discussion after PM Tareq concludes his China visit. BNPs survival depends on how they're going to balance between China and USA.
.
In my 2 paisa opinion:
.
D. Yunus is the only choice to save our economy from mismanagement and create a balance between our relationship with USA and China. D. Khalil is a good candidate too. We need a leader with international connection and credibility, because we desperately need Dollar.
.
D. Yunus has public support and he is charismatic too. If you think he doesn't, then wait will next electricity bill cycle. People are going to miss him...
