Long Amtrak Train Trip Starting 26 August!

Like several others, I slept on multiple seats combined in the Observation Car, but after only 90 minutes sleep, a loud gen z on phone for two hours kept us awake. He realized loud and tried to lower sound but not enough and I barely slept after that. Some bad planning and lacking some supplies impacting me on such a long trip. Still about 29 more hours to go before Seattle but the break at friends starting 9 hours later should help.

I spent several months of my life in Elko. Remind me to post a certain episode on Old Man's Corners.
 
I'm not giving up yet. Will spend the night in an Airbnb in Seattle and the next day booked an Amtrak bus from Seattle to Canada. I'd have preferred the Cascade train to Vancouver but it's sold out. But hey: Amtrak is including the trip to Vancouver as one of the Rail Pass segments. I will still have five segments left after that. Nice! I think just a couple of days of rest will replenish me to venture out more. We'll see

My friends in Roseville CA just dropped me off at the Sacramento station. And I have an another change: still taking the Coastal Starlight to Seattle in a few hours..though looks delayed departure.. still staying at the Airbnb in Seattle tomorrow night but taking an Amtrak bus to Richmond BC the next day because some friends live nearby and want me to spend a night there before they take me to Vancouver the following day. After arriving in Vancouver... I have no plans yet!

Switching up the plans on the fly, virtually on a whim! This is indeed the proper way to do a countrywide tour. You're behaving like a graduate on a gap year.
 
Please post more pictures of your trip. Would love to see the scenery and the beauty of the route.

rise early. Almost never sleep in. Rose to a beautiful morning in northern California and saw Mt Shasta area to my right few minutes ago. Majestic landscape! I'm sipping coffee in the Sightseeing Car and got a nice seat on left side. I should see the Pacific ocean later if I continue seating here. Got more sleep than ever on a train since leaving SC.. about 4.5 hours. And for the first time on this trip a nice seat mate.. a man in early 30s who lives on a sailboat in Seattle. Chatty curious polite.. just like me. Haha. I think this is going to be a long beautiful day!!
