Military retired officers getting civilians jobs

Yes indeed. I have no problem with ex forces chaps getting jobs where certain specialist skills such as logistics are required but a friend of mine was telling me a story.

When ABN Ambro was merged with Barclays a good family friend who was VP Admin was given 2 years in the role before being given golden handshake as Barclays was exiting the Pakistan market.

Chap has 25 years experience in global banking and 2 masters degrees. Showed me job adverts for GM Admin or Director Admin - requirement for job by employers "Applicant MUST be ex army not lower rank than brigadier" 🤣

Clown fiesta.
Very common for logistics, admin and security related jobs

Security and logistics I fully understand, but admin... 🤣. People are still stuck in 1985.

A civilian candidate with 20+ years experience and a western post graduate education will add more value to business. But there you go, same backward thinking.

Brig (r) saab lived a good life in PA earned good money, got good perks post retirement, now depriving equally qualified civilian employees of opportunities due to some farcical recruitment rule.

There is no competitive recruitment process in Pakistan. Which is why we suffer from brain drain and human capital flight.

Cannot be said better. 💯
Unless we as a country (as a whole) start choosing right person for the right job—there is absolutely zero chance of any lasting change happening on the ground.

It is extremely true in the SUPARCO case. I am not sure whether the chairman can be a civilian, but nearly every department, each team has a retired officer now. Whether it is security, test centre, manufacturing, etc. Many have already left. I think JamD is one of them. I heard one left and joined the Navy. He thought, let's go to the source :P.

I think the Armed Forces understand* that competence is required to run an org, but they have to fill in to show that they take care of their 'constituency'. However, the result will be similar to PR and PIA (mainly implemented by politicians backed by military regimes).

"if you want to change an org, change its HR (recruiting process)"
Even this is true for a country and its government. The HR being here is EC and others.

Countless were placed in universities, the last place a retired officer should be seen passing by.

Retired ? That's old news. We are now in era of serving generals stealing civilian jobs.

there must be zero civilian candidates in the entire country.
only retired military generals are allowed to double-dip
then they wonder why all the hatred by the people out there.

Seriously when will they learn, if ever?

The assumption is that the FM would know the various mechanisms needed to make it a success- when quite the opposite may be true.

However, Microsoft’s investment in India is completely independent of and not comparable to Pakistan. One is from having a massive market , a huge IT ecosystem and a relationship of NRIs now leading these companies which even Trump cannot negate.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has taken every possible step to make it impossible for foreign companies to operate here - it IT sector exists inspite of the establishment(elite, wadera, seth, retired fauji businessmen) system rather than because of it. It exists because of relations built overseas by forums like OPEN and others.
Pakistanis especially the post boomer generation are finally getting around to helping each other up instead of cutting them off - but it took them leaving Pakistan to get that change going.

PTI may or may not have been able to impact this positively but it’s difficult to ascertain that especially with traditional sharks pushing into PTI towards the end.

..... by design.

Monopolies by State patronage only.
Even if by design - the simple fact is that design is now accepted as fate by those who see no way out or being circumvented by the scrappy ones who see greater success only once they leave Pakistan.

One needs to just see the trajectory of most startups in Pakistan and how ME becomes the true vessel for their growth. It not the rule but is a larger percentage.

Unfortunately, Not only is being born in Pakistan your misfortune but thanks to this system upheld by the establishment - its your mistake as well.

Although not much you can do about being born in Pakistan - the probability of being born in the subcontinent for any new “human” and ipso facto “soul” is 42% compared to single digit numbers for western countries.

is there any estimate as to how many current as well as retired generals are occupying civilian posts? As well as Ambassador-ships abroad ??
This shit goes on while economy is in the gutter and gets worse each month!
