WASHINGTON — Texas could soon get billions of dollars from Washington for Republican Gov. Greg Abbott’s border security initiative. Tucked into the GOP tax and spending bill that narrowly passed the House last week is a provision to reimburse states for border security costs. It would repay Texas for policing the border, constructing border barriers and for busing more than 100,000 migrants to New York, Los Angeles and other cities run by Democrats.

When it comes to border security, there is little daylight between President Donald Trump and Abbott. The governor has offered more state resources to help the president carry out his border security crackdown, and now, Abbott has requested that the federal government reimburse Texas for the more than $11 billion it has spent since 2021 on border-related efforts under the Operation Lone Star initiative.

“What nobody knows is which Americans in which states are alive today, because of what DPS did to get that fentanyl off the streets of Texas,” Abbott told Spectrum News in February.

Abbott has made multiple trips to Washington to lobby for the repayment, and those efforts may soon pay off.

In a last-minute amendment to the sweeping tax and spending bill, House Republican leaders added $12 billion for state border security reimbursement. It would make grants available for border security costs incurred by states when Joe Biden was president and the number of unlawful border crossings surged. Texas is not explicitly named, but Republicans expect the funds will go to the state.

“We worked to make sure that was in there. I personally spoke with the speaker about it, along with many others, and so, thankful to see that in the bill,” U.S. Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Victoria, told Spectrum News.

“How bad has it been? We have Americans getting killed. We have illegals doing things, gang members coming in, running drugs, running fentanyl, and so Texas secured the border,” said U.S. Rep. Randy Weber, R-Friendswood, told Spectrum News. “Texas deserves to be reimbursed for that.”

In a statement to Spectrum News, Abbott’s press secretary said “Governor Abbott is grateful this was included in the U.S. House bill and appreciates the Texas Congressional Delegation for pushing its inclusion. Reimbursement for Operation Lone Star is a long process and there is more work to be done, but this is a good first step. The Governor will continue working with the U.S. Senate and President Trump to ensure Texas is fully reimbursed for holding the line against the Biden Administration’s open border policies.”

The governor’s office said Operation Lone Star has cost $11.1 billion so far, including to patrol the border, erect border barriers such as the buoys and sharp wire on the Rio Grande, process criminal trespassing arrests, deploy National Guard soldiers to the border and bus more than 121,000 migrants to Democratic-run cities.

Texas Democrats have long criticized Operation Lone Star as wasteful, and they say the reimbursement would come at a time fewer people in the state would have health care coverage and food stamp benefits because of the Republican tax and spending bill.

“Oh, it’s just ridiculous, talk about waste, fraud and abuse,” U.S. Rep. Julie Johnson, D-Dallas told Spectrum News. “That was a whole boondoggle for Gov. Abbott, and the Republicans are just kind of playing into that, and that money could have been used to feed some hungry kids.”

The bill now advances to the Senate, where U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, is leading the effort seeking reimbursement.

“I will continue to spearhead the fight in the Senate for border security reimbursement funding and strengthen the language to ensure that Texas will be rightfully repaid for Operation Lone Star. I thank Congressman Chip Roy and all Texas Republicans in the House for making this reimbursement funding a priority and look forward to working with my Senate colleagues to send the One Big Beautiful Bill Act with these funds included to President Trump’s desk,” Cornyn said in a statement.

The number of Chinese caught illegally jumping the US Border by US Border Police is going up again.
1601 last month

But, we've been told China is so awesome. Why so many trying to illegally enter the US?

When you enter US illegally and contact the border guards, you get detain for just a couple of days. You will get free food, drinks and a place to stay.

After 2 days you will get a White Card and allow to go free. So you go anywhere, like get in contact with a friend to stay temporary. In a month you get a driver's license and get a job.
With a White card, you get free health care and free schooling if you have kids. Paid for by your tax money.

I am sure you have heard of the case of the illegal Indian immigrant truck driver who even got a commercial Drivers License in just a couple of years. Due to shortage of Commercial drivers I bet the pay is in the 4 figures.

If you enter China illegally, you will be jail and deported.

I guess its your country its your rules.

You might want to check out China. Go there for a holiday. It really is an eye opener. No joke. But the China VISA alone will cost you over US$100. That's per person.

Because US is the land of the free for criminals and bankrupts. Just kidding, less competition in US and of course the exchange rate. If you have the same 1:1 vs China, I think none will go.

Original claim:

When you enter US illegally and contact the border guards, you get detained for just a couple of days.

✅ Partially true, but oversimplified.

If someone crosses the border illegally and turns themselves in to U.S. Border Patrol — especially families or asylum seekers — they may be detained briefly (typically a few days) in a holding facility, often referred to as a “processing center.” However, many others are detained for weeks or months, depending on capacity, legal status, and background checks. It’s not guaranteed to be just a couple of days.

Original claim:

You will get free food, drinks and a place to stay.

✅ Technically true — but only while in custody.

Detainees are provided basic necessities like food and water while in detention, as required by law. The conditions, however, have been widely criticized for being inhumane in some cases. Once released, they are on their own for housing and support unless aided by nonprofits or sponsors.

Original claim:

After 2 days you will get a White Card and allowed to go free.

❌ False — there’s no such thing as a “White Card.”

There is no official U.S. immigration document called a “White Card.” What some migrants receive is a Notice to Appear (NTA) in immigration court, or sometimes an Order of Release on Recognizance, or are placed under monitoring like an ankle bracelet. None of these documents grant legal status, nor do they guarantee freedom beyond pending legal proceedings.

Original claim:

So you go anywhere, like get in contact with a friend to stay temporarily.

✅ Sometimes true.

Migrants released from custody may go stay with family or sponsors while they await their court date. This is especially common for asylum seekers who are placed into the legal process and need a U.S. address to be released. However, they are still subject to tracking, legal obligations, and court appearances — they are not free to just disappear (though some do fail to appear, which has legal consequences).

Original claim:

In a month you get a driver’s license and get a job.

❌ Misleading.

Only some states (like California, New York, and a few others) allow undocumented immigrants to get a driver’s license — and it’s not as simple as “in a month.” Applicants still need to provide proof of identity and residency.

As for jobs, undocumented immigrants cannot legally work in the U.S. unless they obtain work authorization — for example, asylum seekers can apply for a work permit after 150 days, but they can’t work immediately. Working without authorization is illegal and can result in deportation or disqualification from immigration relief.

Original claim:

With a White Card, you get free health care and free schooling if you have kids. Paid for by your tax money.

❌ Mostly false.

As mentioned, there’s no such thing as a White Card, and undocumented immigrants do not qualify for most federal benefits, including Medicaid and welfare programs.

  • Emergency healthcare is sometimes available regardless of status (e.g., for life-threatening conditions).
  • Public schooling (K-12) is available to all children in the U.S., regardless of immigration status, due to a Supreme Court ruling (Plyler v. Doe, 1982). This is a constitutional right, not a benefit tied to legal status.
  • College financial aid, Medicare, and most public housing programs are generally off-limits to undocumented immigrants.

So while kids can go to school, the idea that undocumented immigrants receive widespread free healthcare and benefits “paid by your tax money” is a distortion.

✅ Summary:

The original message contains half-truths, exaggerations, and several outright falsehoods. U.S. immigration is not an easy path. Most undocumented migrants face legal uncertainty, limited access to services, and significant hardship. There’s no special card that unlocks benefits, and no system where people are released and fully supported without consequences.

Let me know if you want a deeper look into how asylum, work permits, or immigrant access to services actually function.

You don't have free health care and free school unless the state have such a program, and to get in those programs, you generally needs to be in a refugee visa for over 180 days.

There are no white cards, that's Employment authorisation, which is not attached to Refugee visa, in fact, if you cannot establish your ID, you are held until either your consulate can identify you, or until a judge releases you; otherwise, you will be spending your time in a Detention Camp if you jump the border without ID.

And I don't see how Commercial Driver's Licenses are related to this, unless you are claiming Chinese don't hire Truck Driver so they have to move elsewhere?

Argentine and Chilean visas are higher. And good for 10 years each country.

Perhaps immigrant use the word 'White Card' for the lack of a better or simpler words
This was from the month of a Vietnamese waitress who overstay her visa..

I have seen many 'Walking the line' videos.
Overall, the video ends when they reach US. One family said it was the border guards that open the gate to let them in. No need to climb or crawl in. Given food, drinks, shower and place to stay. This is what attract more people to come over.
One lady when finally arrive at Monterey park and said it looks dirty and poor. I can sense a bit of regret.

Some reporters does return a few months later to follow-up.
This is the results.
One "freedom" pursuing guy ended up being a delivery boy........for TEMU and SHEIN.
One lady showed a stack of rejection letters for job application.
One family got jobs in the restaurant (Chief and waiter).
One family only mention being "Contented".

Almost all applied for asylum and had to lied about being oppressed.
Asylum lawyers business has spring up in Asylum city and they show the undercover reporter the illegal means of getting asylum after paying a few thousand dollars.
Chinese gets Asylum easier then people from other countries.

In one video an advisor actually advise against walking the line because......
Once you 'Walk the Line' you may never return to China and will never ever see your relative again.
Political climate will change like Trump starting mass deportation.

First of all, my wife IS an asylum lawyer, she used to work in the US and was NY and PA Barred. (that's means it's licensed barrister, not barred from being a lawyer) It's extermly hard to get asylum in the US, on average only a quarter of application were approved (With the exception of 2024, where 50% of the case were approved), most will recycle their application once they were rejected, and Chinese are not at all at the category that's "easy" to get, Middle East and Africa lead that charge. Most Asians won't get one unless you are like one of those Hong Kong Protest people that China put a million bounty on, then you may have a case.

Secondly, this is not about what happen to those people that try for asylum, again, a lot of them are going to fail, and they will use up around 4 to 5 chance to appeal (maybe less now with Trump in charge, I don't know) but mostly they are going to get deported in the end, or if they are lucky, they could get married to an American and change their status that way, but anyway, this is about why they keep doing that even when the chance of success is low and yet they still come to the US, that's the issue, not what they did over in the US after they come is the issue.
