New-Chill Bangladesh Thread

Maybe create a Bangla only news thread?

My home schooled Bangla is utter crap - I need the practice.

Non English posts and threads are not allowed in forum in general.

We only allowed political or funny clips, memes and videos in this thread with approval from Admins so that people can share stuff from social media.

Bangla news reports can easily be translated now and posted as English news in the appropriate threads. That way everyone can read and participate.

I somewhat agree with this guy. We need to stop the illegal importation of Indian yarn to help local industries grow. However, we also need to keep in mind that higher yarn prices would mean that companies manufacturing knit garments would have to sell their products at higher prices, which could make them lose their price advantage against competitors from India, Vietnam and China.

It should be looked at holistically.

If buying cheap Indian yarn creates more jobs and earns more revenue then BD should buy Indian yarn.

But that’s predicated on whether Indian government enables a free supply chain.

By free supply chain - I mean Indian government isn’t suddenly going to pull the rug like they do with onion exports.

I am skeptical whether India can maintain a free supply chain.

Hence Bangladesh is probably right in supporting its own yarn producing capacity.

Untimely these kinds of stupidity hurts both countries.

Bangladesh has to use precious land to produce a non essential (not life and death) item like onion - whilst Indians see their onions rot by the roadside.

Pox on both of our houses!

In my book, free trade and letting market mechanisms work without constant state interference and deeper economic interdependence are the best solutions to most economic problems, including messy neighbourly relations. Unfortunately, South Asia is still very far from embracing those ideals.

Indian yarn can be purchased at a much cheaper rate compared to locally produced yarn. When imports come through land borders, the lead time is significantly shorter, meaning the yarn can reach garment manufacturers very quickly. This allows them to keep up with tight deadlines set by foreign buyers.

In this regard, India used to maintain a smooth and flexible supply chain due to surplus production and the availability of locally produced cotton. In contrast, Bangladeshi spinning mills largely depend on cotton imported mainly from the USA or India, which makes the cost per pound of locally produced yarn higher than imported yarn.

In the end, it is the garment manufacturers of Bangladesh, especially smaller ones, who will suffer the most. They rely heavily on lower prices rather than quality to remain competitive in the global market.

I want to know more about Tarique Rahman's "plan". I think even Hannibal from the A-team would be proud of his (Tarique's) plan.
