'No work, no pay,' Samsung warns striking Indian workers as dispute escalates

300 US dollars a month is a low salary for Tamil Nadu that has GDP per capita of over 4000 US dollars. This is roughly 50% more than all Indian average and Tamil Nadu is one of the wealthiest states in India.

@Nilgiri - Are you able to explain what seems like a really low wage for this kind of work in this state?
Per capita GDP doesn't always translate into high income and salary, like Karamay city in Xinjiang, China, the GPD capita is ¥258,800 per year, ( $37,000), but local salary level is not much higher than Beijing or Shanghai.
克拉玛依2023年人均GDP有25.8万元

These workers are spoiled or unprofessional. Pay raise is fair demand but union can be disruptive.

These protests might convince Samsung to move the factory to another country.

Indians do not seem to appreciate foreign companies providing employment opportunities and business to stimulate economy and skills building. This is not good enough there. Apple and others should take notes lol.
i am sorry but no. your post depicts a typical exploitative capitalist mindset.

That is a city dude but Tamil Nadi is a state of 80 million people and the size of of a country like England.

Its cost of living would be higher than all-India average.

Realistically, Indian workers are quite justified in asking for a monthly salary of $430 and Samsung will agree to that. It is the arrest of striking Indian workers by the Indian government that is shameful behavior.

Let me give you an example. While Samsung doesn't have a factory in China, Apple does.
The average monthly salary Apple pays production line workers is 7,195 CNY ($1,030). In addition to the monthly salary, Apple also pays a year-end bonus of CNY11,349 (US$1,630), provides free accommodation and Chinese food, and also buys pension and medical insurance for its employees.
They are mistreating Indian workers compared to the salaries these companies offer elsewhere in the world. So we should support the legitimate demands of Indian workers.

Shame on the Indian government for arresting Indian workers, and on Indian netizens who help Korean companies attack fellow Indians.

Come on.

300 US dollars a month for Tamil Nadu is taking the mickey.

Yes they may not have the best skills but on that salary you do not have enough for bare essentials unless there are two people contributing.
They get to work for Samsung

Must be a decent coffee machine there, that's something

What's the next best option

The best post so far and it seems like the Indian government cares more about "Make In India" than making sure that Indian workers are paid a fair salary and not exploited by huge rich multinationals like Samsung

This is not an India problem this is a very specific problem set up by the Communist party of India members. On the outside it may look like workers problem but bigger things are at play here.

But then again these companies are simply not going "take notes" they would simply move to another state with better opportunities. The taxes and import duties are set up in a way localisation is profitable than importing.

Lol look at this.Last year, Indian factories had major issues during the assembly of the iPhone 15. Due to quality problems, many products were returned. This forced Apple to cut prices. The issue was so severe that Apple CEO Tim Cook visited China to adjust the supply chain.Indian factories have low iPhone yield rates (only about 50%) and hygiene issues, including high E. coli levels. These problems hurt product exports to Europe and mainland China, impacting sales. Avoid Indian made iPhone at all cost https://www.gizchina.com/2024/07/24/apples-shifting-supply-chain-strategy-a-return-to-china/

Many Indians here in PDF argue that China uses "cheap larbors" to produce cheap goods, LOL, now what cheap really means.
Cheap means paying $324 for iphone factory workers lol. Chinese jumping here should sit down. It was $182 but now jobs gotten irregular with slightly higher pay.

Let me guess the source is western funded disinfo against China.
The official figure, not some unverifiable anecdotal account

Like I said whether it's in china or India. Apple still pay like shit but wages in china are significantly higher than those in India. There are also some benefits to workers like free food pension an medical insurance to employees. U wanna work for 140 per month feel free the job is all yours lmao foxconn is still shit no matter how people say it.
