The North Korean army conducted large-scale military exercises, the country's leader Kim Jong-un observed the exercises. Tactical exercises of tank troops and special forces were conducted, taking into account the experience of DPRK soldiers used in the Kursk region of Russia. I swear KJU must be deep down a weapons freak like many of us here on the internets, not quite sure what's he into the most though, missiles, ships etc., judging by DPRK advances in these fields. Or maybe he's into everything lol. Anyway, kudos to the man, he is living our dream!

He really is leading a defense revolution. North Korea used to only have scuds and old soviet junk that they made copies of, now they are making things beyond that, the stuff he is doing is unbelievable and makes you think he is getting help via Russian or Chinese scientists, tech transfer or something. lol

Imo it is likely everything of the above, maximum indigenous efforts coupled with whatever international assisstance than can be gathered and a lot more international espionage activities (as the saying goes, everything is allowed in love and war). This is how Romania was striving to build up it's MIC before 1989 and no doubt DPRK is doing the same. Except DPRK has been remarkably successful in their endeavours, especially since KJU became leader.

The launching ceremony of the newly constructed 5,000-ton destroyer of the DPRK was held at the Cheongjin Shipyard on 21st local time. A serious accident occurred during the launching of the newly built destroyer. During the launching of the destroyer, due to unskilled command and careless operation, the parallelism of the chassis movement was not guaranteed, resulting in the stern part of the launching skid first detached from the stranding, and part of the section of the ship's bottom broke through the holes resulting in the ship's hull imbalance, and the bow part of the ship did not detach from the ship platform. Kim Jong-un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the State Council, watched the whole process of the accident, and criticized it as an intolerable major accident and criminal act due to negligence and irresponsibility, and empiricism without respect for science. Kim Jong-un instructed the establishment of an investigation team to look into the cause of the accident.

Pyongyang, May 22 (KCNA) -- A ceremony of launching a newly-built 5 000-tonnage destroyer took place at the Chongjin Shipyard on May 21.
Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, watched the ceremony.
A serious accident occurred in the course of the launch of the destroyer.
Due to inexperienced command and operational carelessness in the course of the launch, the launch slide of the stern departed first and stranded as the bogie failed to move in parallel, holes made at some sections of the warship's bottom disrupted its balance, and the bow failed to leave the slipway, leading to a serious accident.
After watching the whole course of the accident, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un made stern assessment, saying that it was a serious accident and criminal act caused by sheer carelessness, irresponsibility and unscientific empiricism which should never occur and could not be tolerated.
He seriously warned that the errors caused by the irresponsibility of the relevant officials of the Munitions Industry Department of the WPK Central Committee, the Dynamics Institute of the State Academy of Sciences, Kim Chaek University of Technology, the Central Ship Design Institute and other relevant units and the Chongjin Shipyard responsible for the accident that lowered the dignity and self-respect of our state in a moment would have to be dealt with at the plenary meeting of the Party Central Committee to be convened next month, and censured them for the fault.
He earnestly said that restoring the destroyer as soon as possible is not merely a practical issue but a political issue directly related to the prestige of the state and the restoration should be completed unconditionally before the June Plenary Meeting of the WPK Central Committee, so as to make the ardent patriotic loyalty and devoted labour of the workers of the Chongjin Shipyard and the Rajin Shipyard prove fruitful as proud feats conducive to bolstering up the defence capabilities.
He gave important instructions on the work of the accident investigation group.

Pakistan could learn a lot from this!! I've argued for a vessel like this, packed with large VLS to launch hypersonic ASh missiles. Amazing achievement by the North Koreans, this packs a hell of a lot of punch given its displacement.
