Melaram Building, Mall Road Lahore - A rare picture of 1914

At the well-known intersection of Mall Road Lahore "Chering Cross", where Wapda House is located nowadays, there was once a magnificent building "Mela Ram Building". This building was located at a central location and had several shops.

The historic building was demolished in the early 1960s, and replaced by Wapda House, which still stands today.

This rare picture shows a glimpse of the old splendor of Lahore, when such magnificent buildings were common in the city that remain only in photographs or memories today.

The hotel was established in 1880 by Italian-born Giovanni Fletti during British rule.
This hotel was considered among the most prestigious hotels in Pakistan due to its colonial style of construction and quality services.

Closed in the late 1990s due to privacy, but reopened after renovations in June 2013.

1962 - Recognition of Shafi Chamber and Central Hotel in Karachi.

Many people consider this building a central hotel, but the reality is that before partition of India in 1943 or 1944 this building was part of the central hotel, but it was not the actual hotel.

The building was owned by a British woman, who was later purchased by Haji Shafi Muhammad (formerly Sialkot).

In the early 1960s, it was renamed Shafi Chamber and Shafi Courts.

In this picture you can see the building of National Bank of Pakistan which was established in Karachi in 1970s.

What was unique at the time was that some modern buildings had rooftop parking – a rare concept for its time.
