Right. As this American ex-serviceman replied to me on NY Times Comments section today. When warfare, killing, strife becomes a way of life...

Be under no illusion. The Taliban and India share the same ideology when it comes to Pakistan. Both have territorial disputes with Pakistan. Both joined hands against Pakistan due to their shared grievances.

That’s a different point. But my main point was that we don’t think anyone (including Afghans) is beneath us, the way Indians think about Pakistanis, or Israelis think about Pakistanis. We want good relations with everyone, including India.

That is true and good in an ideal world.

This is not the Pakistan military of 1999.

A lot of work has been done in capacity building in all areas including its philosophy and methodology.

They didn't have a choice. It was either evolve or collapse.

A buffer zone will be required. 2 years of no blasts in Pakistan it can be reviewed.

Besides the fauj haven't even got into their real work yet. This is just breaking down eastern taliban command to clear the way.

Key infrastructure and main leadership is still intact. It will all be systematically destroyed. We will see Kabul without electricity soon.

The entire debate began with jingoistic calls to annex Wakhan. Since you’ve now stepped back from that position, there’s little left to debate...

As for Israel, we are neither in its position nor operating under its strategic ecosystem... We cannot replicate that model, nor should we aspire to...

And India did not annex East Pakistan in 1971. It did something far more calibrated.. it exploited internal fault lines, weakened Islamabad’s grip, and enabled fragmentation from within. That is precisely the distinction I was drawing, between crude annexation and strategic destabilization (and subsequent fragmentation)...

Only Russia has recognized the Taliban regime. India is almost there, with the FM visits and engagements, but not formally yet.

Absolutely right. Others will officially state what they need to state for their own optics. I cannot believe some here are questioning official lines from PRC, Turkey etc. If they don't drag us to any sort of "negotiations", then they get a free pass to say what they like (within reason of course).

Trump is different. He is a wild card and says what he likes anyway, regardless of optics. I don't think he minds much.

One thing I do hope for though is that somehow Iran can stave off any Israel-USA attack on them during this time because we are too busy now to offer any diplomatic support! The timing of this taliban misadventure seems orchestrated by their various handlers.

The turks will expand where they can, they used to be rulers of Eurasia, and they still have that mentality. Of all the nations Pakistan is probably more likely to benefit than to have cause for worry

It is in fact Israel who is pushing India to take on Turkey, which already implies how much Pakistan Turkey cooperation it's concerning to others
