My own(limited) theory is that Muslim rule in India barring Tipu Sultan(awkward exception because he was a territorial ruler of Mysore) was largely the rule of elites who either came from outside the subcontinent or insisted they did and Pakistan’s military national story picked the ghazi from the frontier.

Very Off-topic, but him and especially his father were the smartest and most capable leaders of a "state" you'd find anywhere in the subcontinent from the 16th century onward
We have reduced him to a military general or a warrior who fought the British, but he and his father were the only people in the SC at the time who had the foresight to build a nation-state like the Europeans but with Indian characteristics kinda like what the Japanese later did.
All the other leaders just brought officers to train their military and then called it a day. They were the only duo who actually went the extra mile to try and replicate a European nation-state from economics to politics, recruiting, industry etc
His legacy is just reduced to a chimp who fought the British against all odds, but they were far, far!! more capable and smarter than that. They built a proper, functioning nation-state more than capable of giving the British a thrashing.

Which means there is NOTHING MORE TO DISCUSS ON THIS.

You now admit conversion was later and social. You admit there is no continuous “we” from 712 to 1947. You admit both mythologies are incomplete. That was the argument. Relabeling it “conquest opened the door” does not make it yours.

If you have a claim about the present, make it about the present. If you don’t, this is done.

The early Turkic invaders conquered the Indus plains by force and imposed Muslim rule. The local population was defeated, taxed, and brought under a new political and religious order. Conversions followed under that pressure, not as some free, purely spiritual choice.

Later Pakistani narratives then decided to claim those same invaders as “us.” That is not history. That is a cover-up. It is an attempt to hide the fact that their ancestors were the ones who were conquered by pretending they were the ones doing the conquering.

First came the sword. Then came the conversion. Everything else is after-the-fact storytelling.
