Thats what puzzles me the most about decision making. they thought we will not strike back?

Sistan/Balochistan is a backwater and an isolated region of Iran, they care about Sistan as much as sepoy establishment cares about their own Balochistan and/or Karachi.

They could care less if anyone is bombing/sabotaging these backward areas of Iran, hence no sizeable/meaningful military presence to counter any attacks.

The fifth edition of the specialized drill, codenamed Defenders of Velayat Skies 1402, will kick off within the next few days.

In August 2023, Commander of the Iranian Army’s Air Defense Force Brigadier General Alireza Sabahifard said the top-notch homegrown radars and missile systems have helped Iran emerge as one of the world’s strongest air defense powers.
In remarks in 2018, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei described the air defense base as a very crucial part of the Armed Forces that is at the frontline of confronting enemies of Iran.
The Leader also stressed the importance of accelerating the capabilities of the base and the Air Forces' staff.

It's early in the west, but I can tell you than Tehran bombing in Pakistan had little effect in news here.

It was all over the news in Canada, same with this strike.

Analysts here are assessing on TV the impact that this could have.

Most agree that it now makes both sides even, and will make Iran more wary of launching attacks on Pakistani soil. Thus this is actually going to lead to de-escalation.

One interesting thing to note is that this was the first direct strike on Iran by a foreign power since the time of Saddam Hussein.

On a side note, I may have been skeptical, but I'm glad I was wrong. I'm glad that I gave them a chance because now it feels like Pakistan at least has some semblance of sovereignty.
