Why are they referred to as the "export version" then?
When China exports advanced weapons, it provides customized services.
Fighters, warships, submarines, armored vehicles, etc. Their basic platforms are exactly the same as the PLA's own version. However, the internal configuration is chosen by the customer. You can choose a better configuration than the PLA's own version, but the price will be higher; you can also choose a worse configuration than the PLA's own version, but the price will be cheaper. This choice is entirely up to the customer.
The 054A/P frigate purchased by the Pakistani Navy has a higher configuration and stronger performance than the PLA Navy's own version of the 054A frigate.
Usually.
The PLA emphasizes the systematic combat capability of advanced weapons. Foreign trade customers emphasize the independent combat capability of the weapons themselves. (The vast majority of countries do not have advanced systematic combat support platforms.)
The PLA emphasizes the capabilities of one aspect of advanced weapons. Foreign trade customers emphasize the comprehensive combat capability of weapons.
The PLAAF's J-10C is an air superiority fighter, and the PAF's J-10CE is a multi-mission fighter. Different positioning determines different configurations.
Judging from the public pictures, some pilots of the PAF's J-10CE are equipped with the latest version of the top-level fly helmet. We have never seen the PLAAF's J-10C pilots wearing this type of helmet.
The PLA's own version of advanced weapons will be equipped with a PLA-specific data link and systemized combat system. The export version of advanced weapons will cancel this part, or replace it with the customer's own system, or replace it with the foreign trade version provided by Chinese military enterprises.
That's all.
In fact, when countries around the world export advanced weapons, there are some differences between the self-use version and the export version. Even the same type of weapons exported to different countries are different.
The F-35A received by each country is not the same.
The Su-30/Su-35 exported to different countries is also different.
This is international practice.
