I've been advocating a J-10C assembly line in Pakistan since 2019! But Pakistan's focus was on JF-17. We needed to hit 50 aircraft per year. Our production capacity is super slow and it needs to expand if we want to export fighters and are serious about it.

At current point, latest is that more J-10C are coming. But there is an assessment done and I've pointed to that fact in my previous posts. That's India's 3 tier air defense systems overlapping, right near Pakistan's borders. So Pakistan's long term strategy has started to kick in 10 years earlier. We need good numbers of stealth jets due to mass deployment of LRAD's on our borders. So ideal J-10C mix may get reduce to allow for stealth jets acquisition.

Why not reduce army to 400,000 better trained and equipped force , and shift the savings to air force. Then money won't be an issue for these purchased.

I agree with you. A smaller better equipped and trained regular force is the need of the hour. But the issue of numbers now stem from Baluchistan and KPK insurgencies. We are increasingly spending a lot of money on policing these two restive regions. We are spending a lot lot more on equipping training and keep the FC in field with support from regular army aviation assets. That is now costing us a lot of money even though a lot of money is coming through the provinces and interior ministry funds. Bu the fact remains that regular army troops are engaged and we need boots on the ground with allied assets and support structures in place. The way to reduce this burden is to find a political solution to Baluch insurgency. Right now it is a bleeding wound and festering.

@ Michael. What would you suggest if you were in Pakistan's place and have very little time before the next round and if you feel that my suggestion is a joke?

Your remarks are totally out of place and in bad taste. If you disagree with me give reason not make statements without back up to my suggested threat scenario or possible remedies.

FC is separate force than the 650,000 army. If FC is doing some of the army work in KP and Baluchistan, then doesn't it justify reduction of army force ?

If there was no FC then obviously we would have needed Army in KP and Baluchistan and that way we would have requirement for 650,000.

Significant chatter on J-10C's orders been upgraded to 3 squadrons, which is 54 to 60 jets! I personally think the minimum we need the J-10C is around 4-5 squadrons. That's about 72 to 90 aircraft. India will go with their MRCA with Rafale, that's another 114 Rafales + 26 existing in the airforce and 28 for the navy, totaling 168 Rafals. So J-10C near 90 to 100 number will be enough as a counter balance.

JF-17's all block II and I's need to be upgraded with block III's radar so to use PL-15. And 45 F-16's upgrade to Murad AESA with BVR options. That would total our front line BVR capable fleet to 90 J-10C +45 Older F-16's Murad upgrade+180 JF-17 upgraded with block III radars = 315.
That's a pretty decent number for now as we know 50-60% availability is what to expect. So 315-60% is 189 top line jets ready for combat anytime.

I said it six months ago and it’s unfolding exactly as predicted: Pakistan is set to field over 70 J-10C fighters.

Anyone who thought Pakistan would settle for just 20+ units misunderstood the strategic calculus. It never made sense to induct a cutting edge platform like the J-10C in token numbers. This isn’t about optics, it’s about operational transformation.

Pakistan urgently needs to phase out aging fleets like the F-7s and older Mirage variants, which are increasingly obsolete in modern air combat. The J-10C, with its AESA radar, PL-15 BVRAAM capability, and multirole versatility, is the ideal successor not just a replacement, but a qualitative leap.

This isn’t just fleet modernization, it’s doctrinal evolution. The J-10C enhances Pakistan’s deterrence posture, fills critical capability gaps, and complements the JF-17 in a high-low mix that’s both cost-effective and tactically sound.

So yes, 70+ was always the logical trajectory. The skeptics can keep guessing. The planners already moved.

that makes sense.mirages for strike and j 10 to back them against boggies. while pgs are not relevant in modern warfare .
 
J-10 ...within 20 seconds from brake release to clearing the runway.
